evening all, as some of you might already know i was talking about getting rid of my vw passat for an e30 but i have now decided to sell my passat and get a 5 series, i have seen 2 that i like but i cant decide which one to get, which is where you peeps come in, i have found a nice 2001 530d for £7000 with 91k and a 2000 528i with 85k for £4000 both have fsh and are in very good condition but i just cant decide between the 2, my husband prefers the 528i but i really cant decide, so if anyone fancies giving me some views of what you think then feel free.

is any of them a sport, i prefer the looks of the later ones (facelift) but i would not have a diesel
my dad had a (52) 530i sport, it was an individual spec so it had all the options and was black with cream leather, was the bogs danglies

£4000 buys a 530i sport which is always going to remain more valuable than a 528i. Get a 2000 model one and you currently won't have to pay more than £210 on tax per year.

Get a 530i sport that's before March 2001 registered so you can escape the high road tax.
Also you don't have to worry about the turbo packing up with the petrol.

I wouldn't bother with the diesel, a 50% premium over the petrol equivalent ,for a car that is a ticking bomb is a big price to pay for 6 mpg. Pre march 2001 530i is a much better idea.

thats what my husband said about the road tax cos isnt it meant to be something stupid like £425 per yr for cars made 2001 or newer, i do like the 530 cos the interior and that is a bit cleaner than the petrol but id probably end up getting a new interior so its down to petrol or diesel lol.

I had a 528i,so did my father in law,cracking car,plenty of poke,comftable cruiser.
Would definately go for the steptronic auto, the manuals are rare and not many want them,so worth while for re-sale.
As said the 530d's are a wallet emptier if/when the turbo's pack up!

i couldnt insure a 540i in northern ireland cos the prices are a joke here, plus cars are a bit more pricey here although i have thought about flying to the mainland to get one but i just cant be bothered with the hassle when i have no spare time and 2 littles uns to look after.
