I'm a bit confused about the OBC coding plug. Is it relateed in any way to the instrument cluster plug? and if I buy an OBC set up how do I know the plug fitted is the right one for my car? (I'm assuming the plug is fitted to the back of the OBC bit with the buttons on)
So: Do I need to fiddle about with my instrument cluster to fit an OBC? Where do I get a coding plug if it is missing from the set up?

thanks guys

You going to Gaydon...

If so you can have the coding plug out of my OBC, as it has a 2.5 plug in there. And i have a 318is, so the figures are all wrong anyway. So i don't mind fitting a 320 plug to mine....

Will have to do the swap on the day, don't fancy ripping the panel out twice to change the plugs over...

Although it's 50/50 to whether I'm going to Gaydon or not.... family issues

I've seen no difference on my OBC when going from 320i L-Jet to 325i Motronic with the same coding plug....

touringdaddy - when you say the same as the clocks that are in your instrument cluster what do you mean? I understand the OBC plug won't fit the I.Cluster and vice versa, but are they actually coded together? ie colour coded or number coded?

Number coded:

E30 318i 3-3 TYP
E30 325e ('84-87) 3-8 TYP
E30 325e ('88) 4-4 TYP
E30 325i ('87) 3-1.2 TYP
E30 325i ('88 on) 4-6 TYP
E30 M3 3-1.1 TYP
E28 528e ('85-87) 5-8 TYP
E28 528e ('88) 5-1.3 TYP
E28 535i 5-6 TYP
E28 M5 6-4 TYP
E24 635Csi/L6 ('85-87) 6-2 TYP
E24 635Csi ('88 on) 6-6 TYP
E24 M6 6-4 TYP
E23 735i/L7 ('85-87) 7-4 TYP

This is an US list, so no 320is, but I believe I have a 4-6 TYP (which worked fine, and the same in both the 320i and 325i)

I'm sorry to bump this thread, but I bought an OBC from ebay and the plug in the back reads

6 4 Typ

and in small 8.87

Can someone please tell me for what kind of E30 it is?

I don't find it in the list above :p

Your welcome fella

I can't help with an iS coding plug but if you can find one for any 4 pot it'll be close enough.
