Will I need to swap the entire tank or just the pump, adding a new return line?

Just a pump with a built in return is enough

So a 318is pump would fit the 316 tank, then I just need to add a return line from the engine to the pump?

Also will I need to change the guages or the gauge control chip?

No. M10 is usualy carberettor fed,M40 is injection fed...with fuel injection it is nessesary to have a high pressure fuel circuit. That is to say, fuel is pumped from the tank to the fuel rail, surplus fuel is returned to the tank. A carberettor system uses a low pressure pump to deliver just the amount of fuel required. This is one of the reasons modern cars catch fire in accidents, fuel is sprayed over hot surfaces until the system shuts it's self down.robbo86 wrote:Is any of this relevant to m40-m42 swap???
