Hi

The pad wear sensor came on so I changed the pads on the rear of the car as they were wore out. I was told I would also need the pad wear sensor for the light to go off.

I have done this but the light has not turned off, I was woundering if there was a particular procedure which needed to be followed.

the rear pads and sensor were bought from ECP.

dont know of any procedure...... if the pads were worn, i presume the old wear sensor was worn thru too?? check continuity thru them?
if you have continuity thru the sensors then you must have a broken wire/dodgy connection else where.

I think on the E46 you need to plug it in to a scanner to reset the light.

give it a day or so, I changed my front pad on Saturday and it took till Monday for the light to go out. Oddly it didn't take that long last time I did it.

well. I bridged the wires of the terminal which connects to the sensor.

The light went off, I reconnected the pad wear sensor, the light has stayed off.

Good result!!!

Thanks everyone. :)

you simply just have to replace the sensor and leave the ignition on (engine off) for 20 seconds. the light will then go out. Stupid i know, but thats life!!

This is a real coincidence this. I did the Front discs and a full pad change on a 330ci sport a couple of months ago. I got all the pads and the rear sensor from GSF (as I was passing there) and the front discs and the front sensor from BMW (as I found they needed replacing once it was stripped). The owner has come back saying the warning light comes back on and off intermittantly. She can't pinpoint when it does it. theres no pattern.

So yesterday I have it back in and run a few checks. Went straight to the rears as that was the pattern sensor and found? That the plug does not fit the cars wiring plug properly. F*CKING PATTERN PARTS!!!!!!! :x The part where the clip you press to release the two parts doesn't clip home.

Replaced it temporarily with a spare e36 one I had and the light still didn't go out. Stumped me for about 30 mins until a quick search online gave me Stuarts answer above. All I've got to do now is order a BMW one in and fit it for her.

Oh, and avoid bl00dy GSF and ECP like the pox from now on!!!!! :x :x :x :x
