As little as possible  have you seen the engine running and driven it to find any problems with it? if not would not bother buying too much risk with the unknowns.

Minimum £1500.. Depending on mileage, 3.0/3.2/5/6 speed

That is only the beginning of your expenditure though.. 8O

For that sort of money you could probably get one of the yank V8's :) not that I'm saying the price is too much but if you're spending that much and going through the trouble of swapping maybe an option to consider? Should be at least the same power, economy and probably more reliable (of course it's all my own un-educated opinion).

A yank lump will drink more fuel, be less refined and not be as powerful for a given capacity.. Make a great noise though and sit further back

you've told us nothing about the S50.. £1400 could be a bargain, could be on the money..

You will need another 4-5k to fit it though (DIY)

How much! What needs to be done for the 4-5k?
That's out the window then, no way my missus will have that, not even trying to sneak that out the bank account

well manifold work, not including and of the the exhaust will cost you ~1k.. Then go from there! It is not a cheap conversion! Drop a M52B28 in there, and throw a little ££ at it.. You will have around 250/260bhp, and something that weighs less than an M20 up front

Well i'm now looking to buy an E21, blokes got one here at £200.Been to see it, body is absolutley in good nock with a few spots of sorface rust, he's getting rid as hes got a job in Dubai, so i'm going to have it and do a conversion on that after i finish and maybe sell my cab.
Looking forward to that now as i've been looking for ages for one of these.
Looking to purchase a holset turbo of fleebay as well for the conversion.Wish me luck as the missus is going to go apeshit when she finds it on the drive

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D Yea totally agree, but want to do something a bit different, don't like cars with too many ecu's as their a pain to fix when they go wrong.
I prefere the old classics

Except for the exhaust, which after the engine is the next expensive thing!

Not worth buying a complete car imo unless it's very cheap......

buying the whole car guaranties the mileage is genuine, any history will be present and you get all the parts and are 100% sure it all matches up ( EWS ) you'll also have the correct chassis number when its time for sapres to be purchased, always a bonus, you could even keep the V5 should you need a replacement EWS key in the future.

you can buy a decent undamaged E36 M3 in both B30/32 guises for under £3K if you look, afterall who cares if the trim is scruffy ?????

True Ant, but my budget for the e21 is about £1500 to £2000 and that includes sourcing an engine, interior trim etcc.
I know most of you will think its not possible, but the cars costing me £200, m30 engine is £300 with box and loom, and then basically diff, bodywork, brakes suspension(Will cost more than the car and engine) etc will be time consuming and will take time.I want to get it ready for next summer :D
