i love the yellow lights but how legal are they? i thought there would be issue's with mot and the p0lice?

im guessing some yellow fogs will be going in there too 8)

your a brave boy to go with red, black and white/cream 8O lots of colours going on there.

white bbs look sweet! cream might look dirty and not in a sexual manner.

if i have some time i could photoshop some colour schemes for you? do you have a side pic of your car? and a side pic of the bumper? do you have a rear zender bumper?

I was thinking about a tonne in aerosols would sort out an Art car dude :)

One of the wife's friends is a very good graffiti artist and also very good with stencil work

Mind you, I do have a compressor here.

I was thinking of even being a smart barsteward and maybe practicing doing a lower half respray in the red, if it looks crap then it really will be matt black time.

No worries man i enjoyed doing it.

it looks much better with the yellow lights. its like a big german flag!

so your planning it but are you going with it?
is it just because you have some scruffy paint at the back from the right-off and your worried you cant match the red paint?

i matched some white with rattle cans perfect :D then tried laches silver and failed.....really bad.

red is a flat colour so should be ok, dep on fade etc...

yeah it's largely to do with grotty paint/ scabs at bottoms of doors & sills, around fuel filler flap etc that i'm looking at a bottom half spray, the red is pretty faded, although polishes up well.

can't make my mind up to be honest :D

fuck it, polish the whole thing up and use the scabby bits as the whole 'shitter' look whilst on the whole the car will look a million times better

personally i would rattle can the lower section of the car below the black rubber strips. it will give a massive gap so the paint difference will hardly be noticable (was done on my 205 and looked great :) ) and then you can spray the tailgate as a seperate part and try to blend the rear corners in with fine wet and dry or even a neat rubbing compaound from helfrauds.

i think its the best way. with the matt black you pretty much kill any value of the car.

and if your thinking rat look then do it properly, half harted will look tosh.

oh but you do have a compressor!!!!!!!! £100 for the gun £50-ish for paint, £30 for a polisher......thats the big thing, if its not even just layer it on and polish it back 8) it will shine again!

well this bitch continues to fight me every step of the way.

Today I fitted 24 new exhaust manifold studs and then started to offer up the M52 manifold that came with the lump as a "ready to drop into an E30" package.

The rear branch was a complete pain in the arse to get onto the studs due to conflict with the steering column, after jacking the engine on on side and riving all sorts of stuff about I discovered this cooont isn't going to fit as the downpipe has been welded at the wrong angle and the downpipe won't fit around the front of the bell housing.

So I'm on the lookout for another manifold or at least the rear branch but i think i'd be better off just getting another whole manifold.

I may just buy a hottuning one for £95 and mod that.

So usual lack of progress to report, the driveway ornament remains :(

I have been watching your conversion thread from day one and you have hit problems along the way (baileys engine oil)etc...
you have the added bonus that you dont need the car back in a rush and you can take your time on it and get things right!
what you have got to think is you have hit the biggest milestone getting it fired up,and i was truely pleased for you coz i know what headaches you have had with it.
now is the time to iron out all the little niggles,ie the notorious manifold, but you will get it right,i have faith in the beemerlad
keep up the good work and dont give up :thumb:

p.s. wheres your hypnotic bouncing boobs aviator pic gone?

Lee the manifolds are easilly the worst part of an M50 swap
If its just replacement M52 ones your after then get yourself on E36coupe,plenty of guys breaking them.
I tried sliding the M20 6 branch in past the M50 the other day and they need extensive chopping to to be able to get them in the gap.
Owner doesnt want to risk fooking a perfectly good and saleable manifold if there is a chance it aint going to work, dont blame him really although if it was my own id probably chance it.
Got a couple of spare flanges if you want to have a go with the hottuning one winkeye

get a 2nd pair of manifolds.. just chop the 2nd one closer to the head is the easiest solution.

With the recent dramas concerning the exhaust manifold I decided I needed to get something done about them so i can actually continue with this never ending quest.

So i took the ill-fitting rear branch down to a local garage who I spoke with yesterday for them to have a look. Oh how they fell about laughing at the welding on the manifold. They reckon the welding is so bad that little of it has penetrated where it has been joining 2 bits of metal and that all whoever welded it has done is drop weld on top of weld and hope for the best.

I was told the best thing to do is start over again as this thing is likely to fall to bits once it sees some heat & vibration.

Luckily I had stuck a cheeky bid on some virgin M52 manifolds which I had forgotten about, so when i came back from the garage I checked my ebay account to discover I had won the M52 manifolds, yeay!
