im restoring an A reg e30 in gold, its a 316, iv never reallyt had much of an interest in the e30s but now i have brought this 1, i think there mint! i brought this one for £100, after welding in new rear archs 1 new wing, new disks and pads its got a fresh mot. its been stored in a barn for years and the guy just needed rid! i gave him scrap price for it but its far from that. its only got 64k on the clock , with mots to prove, iv put it on bbs's and lowered it 60mm all round, being a bodywork technition for a massive company i know what im doing in that department so dont have to pay massive labour charges. iv brought a full m tech 1 kit and motorsport interior with seats, doors and carpet. any advise on what a mint one would be worth when completed would be good, im looking to keep it for a while but want a 325 cab next, pref an early one. or any thoughts or suggestions would be great. tahnx guys!! :D

all you do is sign upto http://photobucket.com/

upload the pictures and when you look in the album there will be four links under each picture, you then copy and paste the bottom one into the forum (the one that says IMG Code) :thumb:

Welcome to the zone fella.

Sound's like an intresting project you got there. If it is a carb engined model it will make it mission to get the right engine in there to go with the kit. But do-able. Now you have the bug, no one know's where it will end.

being a 316 its not going to be worth as much as 325i in the same condition. it depends on what you mean by a full resto, there is a few alpinas on here that have litrially been rebuilt from scratch nearly every panel replaced etc must have cost the owners in excess of at least 10k.

mind you the m10 316 engine is heavily tunable possible more than any other e30 engine and is the most bullet proof. you could restore it and bore it out to a 2.3 winkeye

yeah its a carb model, i believe its a 316 -1.8 8v m10 engine, from the research i have done like. i got a full powerflow stainless exhaust on there all the way from the front to the back and the new k&n, splitfire ht leads and iridium plugs. but mechanics never been my thing, body work it where my heart is. :D

An exellent project! You are very fortunate to have the skills necessary for this kind of work. I am sure it will be absolutely mint by the time you are finished. I have visions of that gleaming paintwork... When you respray it, will you take the windows out? And will you be changing the rubber seals? I only ask as I was going to respray my 318is (it is metallic black), and was told that I would need all new rubbers as the old ones would look s**t against the new paint...

needs the proper air filter or you could fit the 318i injection system and will see around 10-15 bhp gain :D

I've never seen a carb E30 in all the years I loved them. Are you going to keep her orginal or is she going to have some tweaking?

if i fit the 318 injection system will i need the ecu and all that? as i said before not that mechanically minded. suspension and brakes is my limit really.

as far as tweaking go, i was considering a cam change with pulley and kevlar belt. if all available, im more of a looks personal that speed.

yer you would need ecu but i think it will be a case of just pluging it all up

but you are probly best getting your engine in tip top condition first

I thought the early 316's came as a 316 with the 1.8 engine with carb and a 316i which had a 1.6 injected engine?

Still I never actually seen the engine of a carb E30.

only got bbs on the front as only welded the arches in to day, due to the grat weather we have had, so the backs not fitted yet, u can see there are no springs on the back yet either, for the same reason, but u should be able to see the bilstein shocks that have been installed
