a buddy of mine wants to purchase a e28 518.what are the pros and cons of such a car?

same as most older cars now check for rust etc the m10 engine is fairly frugal but won't be that quick i've just broke one

The 518 is shite. Four speed box, no power steering, trim as basic as hell and with 90 bhp, bloody slow. Just don't.
The 518i is a different story. 105 bhp pushes it along okay - not a rocket but quite lively and very good on fuel. They all have PAS and five speed manual. Buy a 518i Lux with the BBS wheels, velour trim, green tint glass and electric front windows. I've run about 3 518i's and they are a good old bus.

i imagine the 518i wont be fast but mechnically bulletproof power by the good old m10

Looks like the Sport Evo one. I'm going check tomorrow to see if they still sell the plastic one. therew was a lush orange one near me in realy good nick, walked past it one day and the entire wing was peeled back and f***** up..... not seen it since but would like to think it was sold on the be repaired rather then going ot the great big scrapyard in the sky
