As above, I have a Sony CDX S2050 in my E30 which won't turn on.

I took it out from the dash to check the remote wire to my amplifier and when I replaced the unit, it won't turn on.

It lights up when the ignition is on but only stays in 'demo' mode and won't respond to the 'Source' button you normally turn it on with.

Anyone got any ideas? This is really annoying me as it was working fine before I took it out to check the remote wire!!! :x

Have you checked the fuse in the back of the head unit, presuming it has one?

It has one but I haven't checked it as I thought if it's doing anything at all (which is it - demo mode and all that) then that wouldn't be the problem. Do you thik it could still be that?? If so I'll check when I get back...

Cheers.

would be worth checking but seems strange to have the demo working??? You haven't snagged any of the wires when refitting it have you?

Ok looked into the model a bit, if im right its this one

Image

if it is its not gonna be a locked down cos of the remote bit, ive read the online manual and there is a reset button located behind the face plate of the radio press that in hold for 5 secs reconnect the face and then demo mode will come back on

whilst the radio is powered off but u still have a clock use the selct button to go throught the menu and turn demo mode off

heres the link to manual too

Just been out and tried that but no joy  did the reset and tried to turn off the demo using the select button but nothing happens when ANY of the buttons are pressed - it just goes on along its merry way doing the demo not responding to any of the buttons whether you pres them or hold them pressed!

So, I tried the reset agan and now NOTHING's happening - not even the twattish demo FFS! :cheese:

This is seriously annoying me now cos it was working fine till I went to check the remote wire. I've checked all the other wires which all look fine by the way so I'm proper stuck on what to try next...

So, anyone got any more ideas?? :o:

Tried doing what's detailed in the manual, yes.

It's really weird, sometimes it does the demo shite, other times it does nothing!

I'm getting tempted to either rip the bugger out and replace it or take it down the local car audio specialist to diagnose...!

how old is the unit, if quite old are you sure the source button is not worn out?? try putting a cd straight in. it might switch on and go to cd mode straight away.

Not that old to be honest and would be a massive coincidence if it stopped working when I took it out to check the remote wire as was working fine before.

There's a CD in there too so I can't try that...

Cheers anyway though.
