A handful of people will know of this car but I'm posting it up now as its nearing completion. I just need to tie up a few loose ends and it'll be ready to fire up soon.

Some details:

Base car was a 318i
Now has an M30 from an E34 535i
Running Megasquirt and wasted spark
Rebuilt M30 head
Completely rewired from scratch
Flared arches all round
Lowered on custom built front coilovers and 6" rear springs
Custom exhaust with cherry bomb
Corbeau seats and Driftworks harnesses with welded in harness bar
Hydraulic handbrake
Re-routed brakelines
Custom shift linkage
Lifeline plumbed in extinguisher
Koyo aluminium racing radiator from Nissan 200sx

To come:
Polycarbonate windows
Propshaft
Paint.

They are 16x8j et10 but with 25mm PCD adaptors so effectively et-15.

Yes, its to be my multipurpose track car next year. It's going to get a custom weld in rollcage sometime this winter and a Holset HX50 or HX40 turbo. I'm hoping to do some sprints, hillclimbs and drift events with it next year.

love this. did you get the wheels of the guy on here with the black 335i? he was selling it a while ago.

top looking motor. looks more like it should be an s50 engine swap rather than an m30 but then i noticed the turbo bit :twisted:

its slightly more intense than my m30 touring (see thread in my sig below)

MJG's a top bloke to be fair, I'll stand up for him here lol. He's helped me with info and I've helped him out of a few scrapes including making a 318i non fuel return pump holder into a pump holder with a fuel return.. at midnight the night before the British Open drift event at Llandow. I'm pretty happy to stand up and call Mike a mate, he's a sound lad.

Yeh, I made the front coilovers myself using some Bilstein B6 shocks, 51mm front strut tubes and a 2" Ford Escort coilover kit from RallyDesign. Its a simple case of cutting off the standard spring platform and brake hose bracket, cleaning up the surface of the tube, sliding the coilover threaded tube down over it and welding the bottom of it to the strut tube. Then you can wind down your adjustable spring platforms, place a spring on them, add the top spring platform, fit the top mounts and bolt them up to the car body. Simple really. The front coilovers are sitting on the bumpstops at the moment to get it to sit at the right level because of the horribly chunky camber top plates I have. I need some Ground Control top plates that I can fit upside down on the turret top and gain about 40mm of rideheight which'll allow me to adjust the spring platforms up to gain some suspension movement whilst maintaining this rideheight.

There's a whole lot more to the car build than whats on Driftworks. I've kept the build photos to a minimum on there and just posted the more obvious changes. I've got a whole load more than whats on there but I've only updated one forum (its a private forum) with the complete story.

Like I said lol, its a private forum for a bunch of mates who go drifting and have a laugh http://night-walkers.co.uk/ I dont think you'll be able to see anything on the forum and its invite only.

The exhaust isn't made yet, I'm waiting on some tubing to arrive before I can start making it. It's going to be a simple system. I'm going to extend the front manifold back to reach the flange on the rear manifold, then bring two pipes down under the drivers footwell and make a 2 into 1 collector there where I'll have the lambda sensor boss. Then from there back it'll be a single pipe, through the cherry bomb and straight out the back.. it's going to be loud.

my old m30 exhaust was too loud 8) me and a mate built a 3inch system which joined from 2 to 1 just after the down pipes. no middle box and a tiny centre box used as a back box :o: 3inch in and 2 2.5inch out. it just sounded like it didnt have an exhaust. only thing it really did was move the noise back :D


now i have a e30 m3 system which sound fantastic! not mental but pretty good. had a night mare routing the down pipes but it was well worth it to have the twin pipe howl / whirl out the back :twisted:


i hope you didnt mind me posting a link to your DW's thread :o: these build should not be held back thats all.


MJG has a great motor! there were some ace night picture's of his car which i had as my desktop at work for ages until i had to change computer :( lost them now, gutted.

Taff I've just read your whole thread on driftworks, your car and skills are amazing mate. I've been toying about doing a similiar thing with my shed and you've helped me make up my mind.

What stiifness are your rear springs?

Iv have installed some 6" coilover springs (650Ibs) on my half build touring project and the stance is nothing like yours. :x

I'm a CG Artist by trade, I create car meshes for use in racing games.. bit of a departure from building real cars. I did study Automotive Engineering Design at university and got by BEng.Hons degree some 4 years ago now. I worked for 15months at Mitsubishi Ralliart Europe as a placement for part of my degree where I worked in the design/engineering office working with all the designers and rally engineers on developing parts for the 2004 Lancer WRC. That year taught me a lot about how to build cars, I've still got a hell of a lot to learn but I'm getting there slowly. One day I hope to turn this hobby into something bigger, maybe prepare cars for others.

New E36 steering rack, new E30 tie rods and a modified steering column coupler to get rid of the rubber section without the need of a big alum spacer.
