Whats the best diameter wheel to get for track days in peoples general opinion, 330mm or 350mm?

all depends if you want to see your dials or not. Apart from that it's personal preference IMO

Ah Ok, so the 330mm will obscure the dials and the 350 wont?

I find a 330 a bit big still. I'm looking at swapping to a 300, which ironically enough will allow me to see more of the dials above it as the 330 goes smack through the middle at the moment.

Ah ok, Which wheel do you have and are you intersted in selling it?
What is the diameter of an original 320SE wheel (I would measure it but the car is not here!)

Standard E30 wheels are, depending on what is fitted, 370mm or 380mm.

Started with a 300mm wheel in the race car, IMO way too small
Now have a 350mm, makes driving much more pleasant, especially coupled with a 60mm spacer

350mm 3 Spoke with suede rim, using Lifeline Group N bolt on Quick Release as a spacer. Also lowered my column.

350mm for me too, a Momo item. A lowered column sounds very appealing!

Lowering the column really helps when you run bucket seats.ShineOn wrote:350mm for me too, a Momo item. A lowered column sounds very appealing!
There are two bolts holding the column up. These are security bolts with sheared off heads. If you're lucky you will get them out with a chisel by tapping them to undo.
I have used a 10mm spacers (two M10 nuts actually) and longer bolts.
Make sure you SECURE the bolts properly (loctite)

There is a thread in the Motorsport section about doing the column lowering:
http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... c&t=106819
While you're down there, get rid of the security bolts on the sides of the column bracket as well. I used 16mm spacers machined from alloy rod, but my Cobra Sebring Pro seat is mounted almost on the floor, so I needed it a bit lower. The column will go a lot lower than 16mm though, but that's what I was comfortable with. Also, with the Lifeline Quick Release Boss Kit, the wheel is 55mm closer than on a standard boss; this turns a 16mm drop at the column mounting points about a 25mm drop at the top of the steering wheel.
