Did any of the original BMW head unit have connections to connect to subs and amplifiers. (e36 one) Which one was the best?

non did but you can get the wire harness's with rca outputs

Thanks, I've decided to get this head unit and use a cassette adapter to connect it to my MP3 player winkeye

yer i fancy getting one too just because its bmw badged the sound quality of them is good but distorts easily (well it does in my mums compact) so fitting an amp somewhere and connected up to this will sound cool and look factory

that lead wont work, its designed for some e36s and 8 series bms which had std amps in them (harmon kardon) this lead is used when connecting an aftermarket radio, i fitted a sub and amp to my wifes compact useing a speaker to rca converter something like this:

you just connect it to the speaker outputs on the stereo. and it gives you a low level preout.
