For interest value I noise tested my m40 without the manifold. From a metre away it peaked at 114 dB(A) on idle.E30BeemerLad wrote:here's a wee video, it's soooo loud so just a few seconds on tickover

Things to do
1- No exhaust manifold - need to rescue the old piece of sh1t one from the guy who was supposed to be welding me a fancy new one out of stainless
2- find a way of mating the manifold & down pipes to standard system
3- fit electric fan and find out how to wire it up + obtain thermostat switch to operate fan
4- buy new fron ARB drop links
5- wait for rose joints to arrive in post for rear ARB
6- plumb in clutch slave cylinder with new plumbing
7- bleed full brake system
8- add PAS fluid & check system
9- refit front panels properly & lights
10 - fit gearlever mechanism
11- fit propshaft
12 - fit driveshafts after replacing inner boot
13 - refit interior
there's probably more, but most if not all of the above is needed for an MOT
It also needs a VIC check as it was Cat C, I don't have a logbook for it, needs tax & insurance
Pod ain't happening folks, not with this turd anyway.

oh man i know your pain with the rear subframe bushes! had exactly the same thing
i had jaffro to help out and we just drilled then hammered from above. pain in the nuts.
how funny is your monster truck!
hahaha not really a euro style low rider is it....
i put the whole frame and diff together before i put it back up. had jaffro's help for the first time but not the 2nd.
i think im going to be the same as you and miss the pod. just too much to do. been re-routing my down pipes and its been a right pain to grab an hour or 2 here and there on an evening.
good work man

I've just got the attitude with this project that it'll be done when it's done. The soarer is due MOT near the end of Oct i think, so i'm aiming to have this turd ready for use by then. All the really hard graft is done now, just the finishing off bits.
Got my rose joints in the post yesterday so some threaded bar in between them and I should have a functioning rear ARB, front drop links ordered yesterday too, so they should be here in a couple of days.
Just need to get this exhaust manifold sorted as that is going to be the major drama

my mate might be interested in the soarer if your selling it, he has been harping on about getting one for a while, I will ask him. At least you dont have any need to rush as you have another motor to use! I would like that sort of non pressure resto to do! Ohwell, it will come in time!

Haha Ric, you're a comedian
Done nowt to it since I was at the pod last weekend and I have the company of the in-laws this weekend so nowt happening there either. No exhaust manifold still so although the heavy graft is done, the list is pretty much where it was at a few weeks ago

Although I should be getting on with finishing the M50, my second hand yellow hellas arrived today, muchos cheapness, so I had to do a quick mock up with the front end, bonnet is not seated properly and the zender front valence is being propped up. I think I will paint the silver rings in satin black, but I think they will suit the general hobo/ tramp look the car has going on rather well. The driver side lamp has fading of the yellow tint, but again it goes with the scrap theme

I'm still thinking of a couple of options on the bodywork side of things:
1- Matt black down from the swage line level with door handles, keeping the top half in red (shines up nicely), with BBS in white/cream
2- Rip off one of the BMW "Art" cars

I dont know why anyone would want to paint their car matt black, when I see matt black cars I just think to myself "what a tw4t"
Grey primer would be better, at least then it would look like you have intentions of making the thing look nice

That front end set up looks sweet, especially that valence...
