I have seen it done on a car in the states, some huge old muscle car.

They flatted and polished it a few times and it really did look good.

haha well, am very tempted considering almost every panel on mine is scratched to hell........

If I ever do it (or if a friend of mine does) I'll definitely post the results for a food laugh.......

Satin black looks like the way to go! orangepeel isn't a problem then......but I guess as with all paintjobs, you get better results the longer you spend on it

I've seen some good results achieved... You need lots of coats with lots of thinner though - if you've got a nice big garage & plenty of time then give it a go!

thats how some big body repair shops apply the there primer over a repaired area now it save them money on masking and materails

and itll be a hell of a lot of rubbing down to get a good smooth finish.

I hand painted a previous car, was a 1964 landrover, went to B&Q and bought a tin of dulux and brush painted it, from a distance it looked fine, wouldnt do it a normal car though

There's a technique to it to stop it from orange peeling, it's not just a case of slapping some paint on with a roller......

basically you have to thin it down a lot so it spreads out when you let it dry and you need to make sure it doesn't have any bubbles.......a few people have done it quite successfully and with a bit of wet sanding it's difficult to tell spray from roller..........

of course this isn't a problem if you're using a matte paint........

with enough work afterwards you can put paint on however you like as long as you get a thick enough coat to work with.

i've seen spray can efforts worse than a child with posterpaints and a brush, and i've also seen aerosol finishes that are smoother and deeper than the factory finish. justdepends how much skill you havea nd how much time and effort you put in. no reason why a rollered finish can't be as deep and glossy as a half decent spray job, but it will probably take a while longer to achieve!
