hi i'm thinking about maybe getting an is lump.but this one sufferd overheating,owner changed head & it still done it,he changed the whole lump after this.he says he may not have torqued it down proper?????????how much would this cost?testing?or should i walk away?

it depends on if the head or gasket was at fault in the first place. did he check thermostat, waterpump, radiator? assuming these were ok, you either have a second warped, cracked head or a damaged block, the same fault twice to me suggests that the problem is not with the top end, better just get a running engine and save stress. its a nightmare doing a job twice!!!!!!!

My very first E30 was one like this. £4000 car, offered to me for £800.
I took the gamble, and it paid off. As soon as I started work, it became obvious, that the muppet who had worked on it shouldn't have been allowed to top up the oil unsupervised, let alone rebuild the top end!
However, in your case, the chances are it's knackered, so, unless it's very cheap, I'd walk away.
If it is cheap, and beyond help, it can still be a useful donor for providing all the (many) bits needed to fit an E36 M42 into an E30.
