Guys got a bit of a problem with my 6 and its doing my head in  .
This has happened twice now just as well i was not going far, anyway here goes.
Took her out for a short run today fired up as normal no problems, went to tescos and on the way back she starts to lose power and sounding like a tractor  .
The engine sounds perfect aside from the missing running on 5 cyclinders sound.
I have replaced all the plugs awhile back along with a new air filter.
Could it be a relay or something really confused :?

Does it feel as though it's running out of fuel?

I'd have a strong guess at the fuel pump relay. It's one of the two relays on the side of the fusebox. That'd be my first port of call.

Been told it cant be the fuel pump relay,as they work or dont work plus it would not fire up as it would not be getting any fuel so still confused

I had the same with my 735i.. I think it is they dont like short runs and not getting up to temp.. Soon as you got it hot, and clear its throat it is fine again

Check the plugs to see which is coked up clean it up take the car for a good long run at least half an hour with varied driving.
Check plugs again.

Jhonno is right the old cars didn't like short journeys My 535i sport suffered the same running rough, as soon as I took it on a good run it ran sweet as a nut

Took the plugs out yesterday, the tips where black and the last plug had a very strong wiff of fuel was also slightly wet with fuel.
So what now?
