Needs a special tool to extract the old bush, although it will come out if you cut/chisel/burn it out .If it was mine it would be making a very rare visit to a BMW garage. good luck

Well after much swearing and grunting and hammering and burning I was able to remove the old bushes after removing the complete rear end as one and then removing the axle mount and burning out the old bushes. The funny thing was when I went to get the new bushes inserted at my friendly local garage where it took 9 tons of pressure to insert the new bushes which seems a bit extreme in my opinion but they are in now so all that is left is cleaning and a quick coat of hammerite on the axle mount and as I have the diff and half shafts out may as well do them too
If like me you are or have considered doing this at home or on the driveway be prepared for a time consuming job and a lot of bruises and cuts cos ive went through blood sweat and tears on this one and I mean that literally but there you go it's done now and I think this is or has to be one of the hardest jobs I have ever been foolish enough to undertake
Alas untill the next time and thanks for the info guys it was much appreciated and yes I should have listened but im foolish that way and thought Jeeezzzzzz it cant be as difficult as they say WRONG!!!!!!!
As they say on the stunt programmes on TV "Don't try this at home"

They shouldn't need anything like 9 tons!!! mine went in with less than 0.5 ton. Just used a little lube and they pressed in nicely. Did you line up the channels with the keys? If you didn't then this would explain the force used to push them in.
I'd check if I was you as you may have damage the bushes.

I had to get mine done a few months ago, first garage wanted to charge for 8 hours labour as they did not have the special tool. the second garage charged for 3 hours as they had the tool
It pays to take it to the right place.

Yeah M8 lined up the channels with the keys
The thing I think is the problem these were not OEM parts but purchased from Eurocarparts but couldnt tell if they were different to the old bushes as I had to burn them out so no real comparisson to them but they were extremely tight to go in even with white grease as the garage suggested still they are on now and there is no play in them
The other thing is replacing the rear wishbone bushes is this str8 forward as I may as well do them as well because i have gone to the extent of removing the complete axle would this affect the wear on the rear wheels as the NSR is wearing on the inner edge more than the rest or is there any other adjustment on the rear that could be made the bushes do look a bit perished so im just gonna do them as well

My replacements were from euro car parts and they went in fine as previously stated. Did you deform the area by heating it??Bigsidney wrote:Yeah M8 lined up the channels with the keys

Otherwise I'm not sure why you needed that much force. I'll have a think
The trailing arm bushes dont normally degrade badly. Clayton cars say they very rarely change these. But as its already apart its up to you?
