Hi

I have 1988 318i E30 Baur cabriolet. Engine just died today. AA tested it and no fuel getting to engine. Been told it is the fuel pump. Does anyone konw were i can get a good second hand one from and how much. How easy are they too change? Could it be anything else?

They are about Ԛ£150 for a new bosch one. Not a hard job to do really. Take the rear seat bench off and you are there! Before they go they get noisey enough so you can hear it clearly when the cars running, but they warn you for months before they go bang

you can but of course it depends on the milege it's done from experience my 318i went on about 120,000, but my 318is had done 135,000 and didn't make any noise. If you replace it you won't have to worry again. I would try and find a low milege car if your going second hand but i am no expert

If you find one in a scrappy, remove the level sender unit first (four small nuts) or it won't come out the hole. Found a very low mileage one in a scrappy last year. Rear seat removed, inspection plate off, pipes removed and all loose. Twit couldn't get it out, so abandoned it. Cost me Ԛ£2, but they don't normally come as cheap as that.

I'm after a fuel pump if the other guy doesn't take it.
How much are you looking for?

There's a difference between 325 and 318 fuel pump assemblies. Something to do with the fuel return line IIRC. Basic pump is the same though, and can be changed over to the original frame if necessary, with a little bit of soldering.
