i've had a few people ask if it's for sale but i just say NO. nobody will pay what the car is worth to me so i don't enter into conversation with them! best not to openly disclose the spec to some toe-rag who is just checking it out!

i've had loads of comments about mine. often from chavs in saxos asking "what's in that mate?" after getting hammered at the lights. i reply with "it's just a 1600 mate, what's yours"

Thats what I was thinking of doing when I get my licence. But will I get any looks in a 316i?march109 wrote:The answer is yes.
Consider this, I drive to the local BMW dealership to buy parts, I park right outside the dealership not even in the car park (cos I'm only popping in!), I come out and find everyone who was looking at new beemers is now at mine including a couple of the salesmen. And no one cared I'd parked in the most stupid place ever. And the fitty on reception was having a good look too.
Because now a good one looks so much more special and unique, even people who can afford new beemers love them, but most thos people couldn't handle driving something that wasn't on a new plate, didn't have air con, and all the latest mod cons and actually required regular maintanence.

I only have a 318i saloon, and more people talk to me about it randomly at petrol stations than any other cars Ive owned.
People do tend to look a bit nonplussed that the object of their enquiry was purchased for less than 500 quid as they get back in their 15 grand faceless, semi disposable McCar.
The most awesome demonstration of peoples affection toward E30's was when mine was in Poland, and these guys went crazy over it, even let me park it in their underground spot for the week so it didnt get nicked (which they assured me it surely would)

A couple of years ago i was doing some renovation work at a child minders house, she had about six kids there. In front of the house was a large drive and parking area, at the kids home time this would be full of various euro boxes ect and my £150 chrome turd.
I dont know if he waited till every one was there, but a young lad of about 8 called Conner anounced to everyone;
"I think Byrons car is the best in the carpark because its black and looks realy fast"
To him it didn't matter that my boot and footwells were full of water, that the paint and dirt were holding the front wings together, or that my goodmans cassette player was not state of the art, he just knew it was a cool car, you cant argue with honesty of a child.
I must admit that inside i was laughing my a$$ off, unlike the parents

Mine is a guy magnet, with the question being "do you race this thing?". Women seem uninterested, except one time a (deranged) woman asked me for help with her (fit) daughters car at a busy petrol station, and called me Clyde.

I've heard/overheard plenty of people saying nice things about my car, but never any offers to buy it. They must have just felt sorry for me

I think it's the roll cage that attracts most people, it always gets commented on!
When it's dark you can just see a big X in the rear window!
so if i put the paving slabs back in my boot (to lower it) and put a black tape x in my rear window it will make my car look cooler?????? wooo
only had a bloke at work tell me it was a cool car and he wished he bought one when he had the chance..... i think he was just being polite though
oh off topic but meant to ask, splondike, you going to the meet in ashford????

I'm currently working at a 4 star hotel in the fourth most expensive place in the world to live and I took the e30 instead of the daily the other day and amoungst some very nice cars it got ALL the attention. I was even offered a very embarrassing amount of money for it, which I declined.

You telling me that isn't cool? This is e30 zone remember.

Gaffa tape is like "the force" - it has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the universe together.

Turned up at one of my mates in my sport the other day, he drives a 430 and he loved it - choosing to take my car out instead of his!
But my girlfriend told me she thought it was 'a bit chav'....until she drove it - never again though

As he obviously likes E30s, tell him I'll do him a favour & swap the italian thing for mine.

I do get alot of attention with my cab. I always find people doing owl impressions when they walk past on the street trying to turn their necks all the way round to keep looking at it.
