one on the left is the earlier type for a pre-facelift car which has the expansion tank over on the driver side. The later ones only have the 1 outlet and the expansion tank is on the passenger side of the car. Hope that helps.

IIRC it was cars manufactured after Aug/Sept 1987 where the changeover happened

oh, i am losing the plot here. on real oem it shows the left pump for mine, but my car is aug 88, so your saying that i have the correct pump on the right.
i must add that all the pics for cars on real oem show the left hand pump before and after aug 87. so i would think that you are correct and realoem has a glitch. err would you agree?. thanks

The pics on RealOEM / BMWFans / ETK can't be relied upon for accuracy - they're only an indication.

thanks, im sure i have the right one now. although im not sure if its genuine bmw, it does have all metal parts though and for £15 i thought it was a bargain, although i hope i am not punished with a dud pump :)

I did exactly the same when i changed the pump on my 325. My car was registered 1st Jan 1988, so when they asked for year of manufacture I said 1987, and I ended up with the wrong pump.

Old pump on the left, new (wrong pump) on the right, notice the extra outlet.

I've just looked on OEM and I think the parts diagrams may not be representative of what the actual part looks like as the diagram in the link below is for a 1990 325

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=11&fg=35

Showing as part number 11519070759

Probably just aswell going to your local motorfactors and asking them to show you the part. If your car has the expansion tank on the passenger wing then you need the pump with only the 1 outlet.
