Hey guys i have recently bought a 318is, and when i play any music it sounds crap, so i was thinking i should do a complete overhaul while i have some free time on my hands :-)

I have a good enough stereo (4x50W) but all the speakers distort, especially when a song has any bass.
I have a budget of about £200, and the setup at the mo is completely standard, except for the headunit. I was thinking of upgrading the speakers and maybe amping them? What do ya think?

Also can anybody recommend a good setup, from personal experience?

Cheers

I'd go with good components up front as a priority, it's easy to spend lots on an amp for little return and I'd be tempted to use the head unit depending on what it was. If you get on with the head unit obviously don't change it, once you've got components at the front then think about whether they're sounding as good as they should and think about an amp, a reasonable pair of 6x9s or something similar in the back should be fine, they will mostly just add depth to the quality perception. If you like the bass then factor in a sub in the boot.

yer dont do that, one of the 15 owners of my old 316i had cut some holes out, it looked more like they had used a pair of pliers and bent the metal, rite mess it was

the rear shelf is the main strength in the back of the car so mdf rings etc a must

Put these in the front and back will cost about £80 Alpine SXE-1325S 13cm Speakers and will have a good sound with nice base and will cope with your headunit turned up. If you need more base add a In-Phase XT 10 10" Subwoofer for around £70 and cheap amp like a Legacy LA2499 mono for punchy base.

People will may dislike In-phase however ive used them in different cars and they kick hard and are a good allround sub
