That is one hell of a nice M42 - I don't think that it will bolt onto your M40 box though.
Mind you M42 boxes aren't difficult to find.

 my 4pot wrongness sense is tingling, I like it

That'll probably need an M42 specific box, prop and mounts as well as the correct ECU but everything else should be ok.

Lucky fecker to have a LHD so you'll have no problems with the manifold either.
M42 rightness above 6500rpm, nobody can hear you scream

That one in the picture is, but these aren't (even though they're M44s):

Oh that H2.3 would be nice in a E28. Four pot but nice.

I wonder what crank and piston combination is giving 2.3.

It must still be on one throttle body otherwise it should be over 200bhp. They have made it a lazy engine almost, doesn't look like it really revs going on where maximum power is. Certainly would be nice, but realistically an m3 is always going to be a better prospect in terms of parts and overall power.

I'd imagine it uses fully custom internals as I've never heard anyone stroke an M4x to over 2.1L. Even the Metric Mechanics motors are 2.1, but rev to over 8k producing somewhere between 200-220bhp and that's still on one throttle body. Expencive stuff though, over $8000 for their "rally" spec engines, and that's not the best one they can make 8O
