I'm sure someone's come across this & I really should get round to sorting it - lumpy idle when the engine's cold?
It's smooth enough when warm, althout it is sometimes slow to return to idle RPM from about 1500. TPS clicks as it should, & there doesn't seem to be anything that's physically catching on the throttle cable! Oh, & the blue temp sensor's new too (although I know that doesn't necessarily mean it's AOK!).

Are we likely to be talking ICV issues here? Any good ways to test it?

Cheers :thumb:

sounds like your having fun :?

my m30 (with my limited use) tends to hesitate when you open the throttle when cold (not had much chance to get it warm but it stops when it does). so when i open the throttle there is a pause then the revs rise.

strange motors, its not an issue though.

is your throttle sticking? maybe a nice soak of WD40 could smooth that up and a bit of carb cleaner on the ICV? start basic i guess if you have not tried it?

Doesn't seem to be anything obviously jamming, but I guess a bit of the magic WD can't hurt! :)
Already tried cleaning the ICV out, but I could do with testing it (if that's possible with a multimeter etc?) or trying a new one.
& the lumpiness from cold isn't a biggie, I just can't imagine an E32 came like that from the factory...

or an e34 :D

i cant see a big 5 being lumpy when sold, but then again would you feel it in that big, heavy, sound proofed shell???
well you would i guess.

maybe it just needs a good old service? when was teh last oil change? plugs could be the issue, give them a check. i know my mx5 is hesitating slightly when cold and i have been informed its down to the plugs. really need to service it but i have been messing with my m30 too much.

sometimes its the simple things, but i m guessing you have though of them all.

would be nice if someone else had some input :D im just throwing knives in the dark

Been through all of those - it's due a service again (& will get one on Fri), but it's had the same problem for a while... I keep coming back to the ICV, just not sure how to check it!
