Are E30 wings bolt-on, or is a welder involved? If it's just a few bolts, what's the drama?

from what i can see they probably will write it off, the wing looks like its pushed the bonnet, which will mean jigging, to get the right spray job the front end will need spraying and the door blowing in, little minor things add up like the grill, seals, along with the normal parts, this is just ruff, and im no expert, so sorry if im wrong just looking at it from when some thing very simalar happened to my golf, but we settled it private so it didnt get destroyed :D

Gutted :( If you go insurance, that's a certain write off. Would be a tempting DIY (looks like it from the pics anyway!) if you could convince your neighbour to go for cash...

Poor chromey
BTW mate the fact he is african is irrelevant :? He is a cnut though :P

Bonnet may well be "straightenable" and keep an eye out for a matching 2nd hand wing and grill. Ask your dumbass neighbor for some money to cover it. Jobs a gooden.

At least the bumper is not damaged! Just to replace that side bit you'd be looking at £70 for the side bumper part and £30 for the bumpstrip!

if you want to keep the car and not get mugged with the insurance, then see if there is a realistic prospect the dude will have the money to sort it privately. If you know he ain't got a pot to pish in or that you will get the run around then you've no choice.

As the car is a previous cat c, this will at least knock 30% off the book price for your chariot.

There seems to be nothing structural as far as the damage goes, so it should not end up on cat b.

But as said, a wing, a bonnet, a grill will have have sorted. If you can source good second hand parts there's a better chance of your neighbour parting with the dollars. A couple of hours would have it bolted up & looking nice again.

The guy's alrite. He still on an african licence, so he's not exactly up to the uk driving standards, if ya know what i mean?
Giving me a bit of dosh for the damage(which is going in the sport fund) winkeye , not worth the hassle of going through the insurance, i'm not exactly going to gain anything from it.
The chromie's coming off the rd in 2 wks, m.o.t's up. Making way for the sport. Still, shame about the whole thing really.

so because the wing has pushed the bonnet it will need jigging thats a new one on me it at the very most will just need adjusting whether the bonnet is repaired or a new one is sourced

So does he have insurance? He should only be on the African licence for 6 months, not 6 years or the usual story

i did say im no expert, so yeh maybe adjusted, but in worst case it might need more work doing, there might be damage on the side, probably best to get a garage to give it a quick quote... maybe?

It does not work like that sadly.Insurance companies will often only repair a car if its less than 60% the full value of the car.(can not remember the usual value for sure).
So on a car of that age the insurance company would value it at about £500.Therefore they would only spend about £300 or £400 on it to repair it.However it would cost around £1,200 to fix.

Still waiting on the 1st case to go to court, which is a nightmare! My solicitor is fairly confident due to the fact it was a rear end shunt.

Update on the front end claim, they wont part with a £100 (which i thought was very reasonable) So its in the hands of the insurance, at least there admitting liability, and that i was at no fault. Still i'd rather the car as it was before, in its original state, than see it battered and looking its age. Nevermind, shouldn't be that long til the sport is ready, going for welding and mot in 2 wks. winkeye

Can you get UK insurance with a foreign driving license? If so I would imagine it would be expensive.....

I know my parents had to get an american license to buy and insure a car when they moved to Florida.

Had a letter from the insurance firm today. There gonna pay out £600 on a cash in lieu basis, so i can repair it myself. So i'm pretty chuffed with the outcome.
