just wondering the cost of such a swap and who would be capable of doing it any thoughts??
That is not a good choice.
Does it even come in a rwd form?
A m50 is ALOT better choice.

belive that M75 'box and a mod to the cooling system is required, engine of choice in the kitcar world...used to revive Lots Of Trouble Usualy Serious Elan Sprints, for example.Gunni wrote:That is not a good choice.

I think its the way forward, forget its a Ford engine base it on its merits which is its a very light, revvy and reliable engine which is very tunable! There is everything available from turbo, superchargers, stroker kits throttle bodies whatever you want as your budget allows.
To fit into an E30 or any RWD application you would use either a Type9 or T5 gearbox from a Sierra with a bellhousing adapter which is about £200. With just a 4 branch manifold and remove the PAS your looking at 170bhp straight away. Or even with a low boost bolt on turbo 250bhp possible for very little outlay on standard internals.

I think it's a good idea, very small light and powerful. BMW stopped caring about small capacity lightweight performance engines after the e30m3 lol. I'd gladly have a Duratec on ITBs with crazy cams and high compression in the front of my e30, but for £500 I'm happier with my boat anchor m30b35 and pulling 4th gear smokers around Luffis at Knockhill

I only used it as it was 'laying around' I could have modded a standard one or made a different steering coupling for little or no extra
When my M50 is sold on it wont be going with my S50 manifold!!

do it if you can, although price does depend on how much you can do yourself. need to think about sump, mounts gearbox, water cooling and propshaft mods. as well. ive seen a few in mk2 escorts now. i fitted a 2litre mitsubishi lancer turbo engine into my e30, very good power to weight.
and nothing wrong with the ford engine, they have huge potenial.
ive done a few engine conversions in various cars now so your more than welcome to give us a call if you want any info and help.

Its about the same Fuzzy, the tuning potential is very wide and the engine responds very well to basic breathing mods the standard internals are good for 250bhp 200lb/ft after that uprated items required, which is around Cossie money for crank rods and pistons although US kits available off the shelf considerably cheaper. They can be stroked upto 2.9 litres but the best stroker is 2.5 litres it revs hard with a matched torque spread. Put it this way people been getting 700bhp out these reliably for years now (but is as expensive as doing a 700bhp YB)
The Mistsu 4G63 and Toyota 3SGTE are in same ball park as the YB for factory turbo engines but most people stroke them upto 2.3 or 2.4 litres straight away as it gives massive torque and power without the lag.
Ps the is a revised Duratec HE due out soon with less weight rumoured to be around 85kg fully dressed with lower emmissions and higher port flow capability out the box.
