325i inlet and throttle body is probably the next step for little money.

Effective, but infinitely more effective if you leave it attached to the rest of the 325 engine.

325i throttle body, 323i crank & pistons, wild chip from Ant ATech.
Or, do as Brian suggests and put a 2.5 lump in.

TB and chip are well worthwhile if done together. I keep meaning to get mine dyno'd just to confirm what these mods actually do for the power figures but I still haven't got 'round to it. There's talk of power increasing to 145-150bhp, but no-one has a print-out to prove it - yet.

.....And what is it with Andover these days?? There must be about 5 members from the dump now! :?
This is why I no longer drive an E30......

Fit the chip yourself. Not hard. I'll do it for you for free if you get one from Speedtouch or Ant.

The real deal is to change the ECU with an aftermarket ECU. Your Motronic EFI is 20 years old... either get a chip for the quick and cheap boost, or replace the system. You can make your own from around £250, or get a pro to fit you one. You can then ditch your air flow meter, and dizzy, and tune to your hearts content.

Take large power increase claims fro a chip with a large pinch of salt!
The only real way to increase engine power is to increase its effectivness as an air pump, and a chip can't do that!
BMW produces its cars to operate on various grades of fuel, in extreme temperatures, and under all sorts of pressure conditions, but, assuming you won't want to run on 91 octane fuel, 20,000 feet up a mountain, in a temperature of 40 degrees, then a chip can be designed to exploit the more normal condition that the car will operate under.

Nobody should spend any amount of money on a 2.0, just fit a 2.5 at least.
It´s NEVER going to be worth any money to spend it on a 2.0 unless your going turbo and then a 2.5 is obviously the better choice anyway
With great challenges comes great engineering.

Some people like to tinker with there cars as an educational exercise, or just cos its fun. Money doesn't always come into it. If the guy wants to mod his 320i, then it's not for us to preach otherwise.

Besides, some mods can be taken off and sold or used on a 325i at a later date.

Then his tinkering should begin with installing a bigger engine ;)

Ah..but then where does it end? 2.5 2.7 2.8 3.5 bigger?

siddiqi1: Cheers for your comments. My Plug 'n Play approach is proving very popular. Especially to our Polish E30 cousins for some reason. Nobody has blown their E30's up yet as far as I know! :D

i agree with others, for £200-£250 you could buy a 325i engine, which would give you 30 ish bhp, you put on the 6branch + chip that winkeye .

book says 320i 129bhp @6000rpm, 128lb/ft @4000rpm 325i 171bhp @ 5800rpm, 167lb/ft @ 4000rpm

you decide
if there wern't people like me,
with cars like mine,
who would you put down to make yourself feel better?
