knocking noise

i've got a horrible knocking noice coming from the gearbox box area only happens when in gear not clutch is depressed help

I take it you mean that the noise is apparent when out of gear but when clutch pedal depressed the noise abates ?

If so it sounds like your idler gear in the gearbox.

Not terminal but bloody annoying !
