I'm looking at turboing my e30 325i toring but obviously i'm gonna need a new aftermarket and mapable engine management system. Can anyone make any recommendations of what to use, where i can buy it, rough cost and also where best to get it set up? Thanx for any response

There are loads of aftermarket ECU's available
It all depends on what EXACTLY your looking for
MS can be either home build or assembled, so if your good at reading wiring diagrams and happen to be handy with a soldering iron it's probably the cheapest option
All the others are already built and have had extensive testing and manufacturer/dealer support network
Most NEW ecu's will come with a basemap to get the car running but will require further mapping
You really need to adk yourself several questions, such as,
will i use the distributer or coil packs
how many (6 or 12)injectors
Batch/semi sequential or sequential
do i want the ecu to control fans/boost control/water injection etc etc
Once you'd got your list of things you want the ECU to di,I'd suggest looking at manufacturers websites and check the specs of the units available
Don't discount 2nd user units,as they can be found at some considerable saving over new costs and, as i've found, can have all the features you require and more, for the same price as a fully built up basic version of MS
I realise that this will raise more questions than answers, but at the end of the day, you really need to decide on what features you require/will require in the future and your planned budget

fowler,
yea def tempted; have been for a long time; just building up the courage to spend the money; becasue though i have limited knoeldge about fuel/timing and spark, just the idea that i can sit at home tunning my car gets me excited!
not something i cant learn, obv no where near the experts of the likes of you and ant; but what a system! and its pretty much plug and play apart from the spark and TPS, which i belive isnt too bad either; just some wire splicing.

I´ve had great success with Vems over the summer.
Race Clio
Rally Ford Focus
325i Turbo HX35 1bar at the moment
325i Turbo HX35 10psi at the moment.
When you take things into account and compare VEMS to other units (not talking MS here)
it´s not expensive at all. I first planned on making adapters for complete installs but it´s just to time consuming,
It´s quicker to just run a few wires through a purchasable Motronic connector and then extra wires for injectors, tps and boost control.
Vems will soon have GPS logging, bluetooth, a new graphical user interface with very nice tuning features(alot better then MegaTune has right now), Long term SDcard logging and more.
