Bought myself a new one from ECP and it's lasted 18 months - now it makes horrible groaning noises when raising or lowering, and doesn't go all the way down.
Are these things fixable, or do I have to dig deep and weep again?
ECP score so far:
Aerial - 18 months
Clutch master cylinder - 3 months
Electric aerial - fixable?

I've taken loads of electric aerials apart and rebuilt them from a box of
old bits i have. they are fairly simple, just a set of plastic gears a mast
with a plastic geared strip on the inside to enable the motor gears to
lower and raise the aerial.most of them can be separated in to two halves.and taken apart not difficlt if you just remeber where everything goes.
usualy tke fault is when the aerial starts to get stiff due to a bent mast or
lack of lubrication, this causes the geared cable to strip, hence the horrible
noises,if the main gears are o.k.you can get away with a new mast and a clean and lub up.worth a try as masts are a heck of a lot cheaper than a new aerial

hhmmm... interesting. No qualms about taking it apart, but... the mast has never been bent, and I grease it from time to time, but that doesn't seem to help, so I assume the problem is internal.
Oh well, that's this weekend taken care of then...
Just say NO to ECP...

Is the mast the telescopic part or the motorized bit in the boot? And how much do the bits cost?? Im guessing a fair bit?

The mast's the telescopic bit... a new aerial from ECP was Ԛ£30 if I remember rightly, but I'm afraid I cannot, ahem, unequivocally vouch for the quality of their parts...

The mast itself is replaceable, I have a black one here. Bought it from BMW last year on back order, waited about 10 weeks for it then found the bloody aeriel isn't the original Hirschmann one but a Beru without a replaceable mast
Arse.
There are two types apparently, the originals have teeth moulded into the white plastic rod inside the mast but genuine replacements have a smooth rod without teeth to avoid the stripped tooth syndrome.
The black (dechrome) toothed type I have here is part number : 93 07 0 000 007.
Does anyone know for sure if the ECP Hirschmann replacement has a toothed or smooth rod ? If not this mast will be for sale
Cheers,
Iain T

Hirsch replacement works well .... takes about 2 min to replace ... the get bent in the wind so easy ....... about 10 quid for the relacement .... turn stereo on ..... pull aerial out all the way ..... feed new in partially ...turn stereo off and feed in the new
DONE .....
DONE .....
