Bonnet up for charging (as I'm not using it regularly), no key and I'm sitting inside with the door open, courtesy lamp on.

I notice the windows do not work - normally they work without a key if the door is open.
I close the door and the courtesy goes out but stays red. As in red-hot, a tiny bit on.
If I press the window switches now it brightens up,
If I pop out the window cutout on the dash it goes out, reset it comes back on to red.

Has anyone else has this?
Any ideas what to check?

When I open any door (2 door 1986 convertible) the courtesy lamp comes on nice and bright .

The courtesy lamp just never goes off properly - it is always red hot unless I pop the window cutout on the dash or switch it off on the lamp.

Solved:

Fuse 28

Obviously it does rather more than it claims in the manual...
