haven't even given that a thought yet mate
I'll probably set fire to it all before it's finished, or it will self-combust when i connect the battery for the first time lol.
I'm off to Norwich this weekend to pick up the trailing arms with new bearings and reassemble the arms, backplates, brakes etc and press in all the new bushes.

Made a small amount of progress at the weekend.
Collected my trailing arms from the old man, put new bushes in and have already fitted new wheel bearings each side. Fitted new back plates and new handbrake shoes. Also fitted new rear subframe bushes. All of this was made rather easy with a 10 tonne press.
Also managed to blag a free compressor and some air tools which I have bought back to York with me, so now have air ratchet and a couple of air guns.
Should be able to make a start on getting the rear end bolted back together soon and actually have the car sitting on 4 wheels, which it has not done since October last year.

Carl, still waiting to hear about the manifold mate, the guy making it is being worked to the bone by my boss, who has him helping to refurbish a Priory he bought recently, I keep hearing tales about him falling into a lake with a chainsaw running and trips to A&E

naah not yet, waiting for it to stop pishing down so I can get laid underneath it and see if the rubber mounts will do OK by moving them into the slots. If not I have already ordered a pair of E36 arms.
I also need exhaust manifold studs as I noticed my head only seems to have about 3 studs in it.
A list is growing for my trip to the stealers lol

Ive just removed that on my conversionsjaffro wrote:nice a dry here lol. what air box are you going to use as theres a probe thing with pipes on that goes into the airbox
E34 535i airbox can be made to fit as can E36 325i although ive not tried one of them personally.Seen a pic of one fitted on E30.de though and does look good in the E30 bay.
Think I might just stick with a cone filter on mine but box it in completely.

Well the engine is sat properly on the mounts now, i just had to turn the rubbers around so the stud sits in the slot on the subframe. So I wasted £30 on some more E36 mounts after discovering my E34 lump has had the 36 mounts fitted already

This is the new weapon, shame a lot of the heavy stuff is done, although I've still got to reassemble the subframe and arms, diff etc and get it all bolted up

To be honest it seems like the easy stuff has been done now, and now I have the likes of this to contend with

I have a problem using the standard M40 rad by the looks of it, has anyone got round this problem or do I just stop messing about and buy an E35 M50 rad?

What is this for and where does it attach? One hose goes to the side of the head under the inlet and one goes to the bottom of the throttle body.

Does this hose which i'm pointing at and has had a bolt stuck in the end connect to the carbon canister?

I'm feeling like I'm really beginning to struggle now as the wiring is a bit of a mess and has already been hacked about with as this lot has run in an E30 before, but that must have been for about 30 seconds as some of the connections are literally 2 wires twisted together
I don't know whether to try and make good of someone else's butchering or start afresh with another loom??
Do I need to have more than just to 2 loom connectors present that you can see in this pic?

The M40 I took out has 2, do I need to be removing any of this?

Sorry about all the questions but I'm starting to doubt my ability to have this running down the pod
HELP!

That loom is a right mess, looks like the diagnostic plug has been cut out.
I had a converted loom for sale not long ago that would have placed the ECU under the dash, if I have a Non Vanos loom about I can sort it for you if you dont fancy it yourself. If you let me know tonight I can have it in the post Monday

As things have reached a bit of a halt at the engine bay end of things, I used today to get the rear end ready for re-fitting.
Bolted up the trailing arms to the subframe, should have used new bolts etc as these are a bit rusty but what the hell. Made up some brake pipes, fitted new handbrake shoe compression springs, new rear discs and other assortments.
Here it is in a sort of mock up with the diff roughly in situ.

What a scrap yard

Rad wise I used an m20 one it seems to fit fine and dan said they work fine too

If you use an M20 radiator you will also need the expansion tank...M42 is this engine's nearest relation in E30 use, what do they use?Bob_S wrote:i had mine in and running within a day nearly ready to roll now, just need to secure my airbox and finish the exhausts.

M42 rad has the expansion tank integrated to the side of the rad I believ, got an M42 rad sorted for this weekend (milkbar meet)
some people get the engine in nd running, some people refurb the full running gear and everything. takes a bit longer. and girls get in teh way too.Bob_S wrote:i had mine in and running within a day nearly ready to roll now, just need to secure my airbox and finish the exhausts.

I've surprised even myself so far with the lack of bodging so far, but with the pod only 1 month away and the hassle of an MOT and VIC check looming plus getting a log book, tax insurance etc, something's gonna have to give. Maybe I should look into trailer hire lol
