This all sounds very familiar to when i first bought an 02 plate e39 530d sport auto.

Within 4 days, the engine blew, due to diesel pump failure.

The garage i bought it from replaced the engine with a remanufactured guaranteed one from a Dutch company called VEGE.

I did however first speak with Trading Standards & they advised me of my rights.

Good luck fella.

Regards,
Pete.

The 325Ci engine is basically the same as the 323Ci - both double Vanos 2494cc. The 325 is 190 odd bho because it has a better inlet manifold. I'd just swap all the aciliaries over and drop it in.
