Some photos of my latest completed project. The car isn't for sale...and actually doesn't even belong to me...I did the project for someone else:

That is sweet! Whoever 'someone else' is I hope he's pleased. I just love these sorts of restorations, I'm slowly trying to get do mine on my e12 m535i. Did you replace many of those engine parts? What sort of budget was this?

Hey, thats awesome, you made it look brine new. You know the owner of the car, isnt he a surgeon or something along those lines, that restores bmws to there former glory as a hobby on the side?
I use to read into this site a lot, I even bookmarked his site,
as pritty much every car of his is near enough showroom condition

Yes...quite a lot of replacements but also just a lot of cleaning for weeks on end with toothbrushes etc!
Restoration costs in terms of parts and third party costs etc ran to circa £5K.
Very best of luck with the E12 M535i !
Cheers.

I also have this one of my own (it's not on my website)...it's a 528i though. Cost me about the same amount to do...plus a further £2K to buy in the first place . No point me trying to sell it at the moment though as really I don't think people are buying cars of this calibre at the moment.

Yep!..That was me too!
The chap who owns the Diamond Black one above also now owns that white one having bought it from me! He'd actually agreed to buy it from me before the article was actually published.

Those cars look wonderful. All of them. Please don't park too close to my car at a show, mine looks bad enough already.

Hi Jan!
Sorry for the late reply! Just back from France today.
Yeah...I know I must be mad! But that's probably the last of them...they're just far too much hard work now.
You're Touring wouldn't take much....and you've got all of Nigel's at your finger-tips too!

Many thanks!B7 wrote:looks fantastic but a couple of questions. Whys the body kit not been replaced after resto? Also no front sports seats? Nice work though.
Yes...I decided to remove the bodykit for a couple of reasons:
1) It had not only hidden but also contributed to a number of the rust problems this car had.
2) I (personally) prefer the look without the bodykit (plus the car should be lighter too now
What I hadn't appreciated before I made this decision was that it wasn't quite as simple as just leaving the bodykit off. In fact, I hadn't realised that in addition to a number of things having to be removed (eg. different jacking points etc) the M535i actually has no proper front valance under the bodykit!
Thus, it turned out to be a bit more of a job than I anticipated.
Yes, you're right though...it's an interestingly spec'd car from new in that it was an M535i complete with bodykit but spec'd with 'Comfort' Seats' like the 535iSE rather than the 'Sports Seats'.
