Work for me too, got within 2 miles of Gaydon last year, then had almighty row with the wife.
Turned round and spent the rest of the weekend in complete silence. So not all bad

I'm not going either.
450 mile round trip for me (about 8 hours driving). I'm not that bothered about wandering 'round looking at some highly polished E30's - I'd rather be enjoying my own for a couple of hours and then chillin'.
Don't get me wrong, I've got plenty respect for the work that goes into the cars, but spending hours looking at - and talking about - them does nothing for me anymore. Been there, done that, got the t-shirts the photo's and the medals over 20 years ago.
Yeovil.....
Bromley.....
Silverstone.....
List goes on and on.

It is meaningless to ask; which is real, 'real' or imaginary? It is simply a matter of which is the more useful description

Robbo,
Why not have a go yourself? It's pretty time-consuming, you need to use plenty of paint stripper followed up by sandpaper/wet & dry, wire wool, etc. to remove the paint and primer (the BBS primer is tough stuff!) then polish with Solvol Autosol. A Dremel helps to get into all the awkward areas. Takes around 2 hours per wheel to get a reasonable finish. Thereafter, unless you lacquer coat them (which isn't recommended, as it cracks and lets water in) you'll need to repolish every fortnight or so (only around 5-10 minutes per wheel) to maintain the shine.
Not for everyone perhaps, but my BBS had manky-looking scratched paint/corroded lips to begin with, so it was a cheap DIY refurb job more than anything.
