Sparco Ultra Seat Pain!

First of all I apologise to the Mods if this is in the wrong section!

Does anybody know of any gel pads or similar I can get for my bucket seats.

I have just driven four 5hr trips and my Sparco Ultra buckets are chuffin uncomfortable for those distances and I end up with a dead arse!

I have tried using a normal cushion (like you would have on your setee in your front room) which helps for a bit but still gets uncomfortable. (not to mention how uncool it looks with your nans paisley cushion on the seat of your manly track weapon!)

I have tried searching for "gel pads" like the material they do for mountain bikes but can only find them in the states.

Any ideas on how to elimate my arse pain guys?

I am off to the ring next month for the first time in the E30 and am not looking forward to the journey!

Buy some proper seat or buy some cycling shorts and wear them under your trousers. Added bonus any totty at the track will think you have a great arse.

I had to add a base coushion, leg support and lumbar support to my OMP to get it comfortable.

When you say buy "proper seats" do you mean normal seats or just that my Sparco's are crap?

I was taking the peewith the proper seat comment.

If a lard arse like me can comfortably sit on a mountain bike saddle for hours in a pair of those shorts they should be fine for sitting in a car. Only thing is the padding is more orientated to leaning forwards rather than satback in s seat, the link posted above by agent006 might be better. But at just over £10 cycling shorts could be worth a try.

Would it be the "special Cushions" I would need and do you know what they are filled with?

My sparco roadseter are the most comfortable bucket ive sat in for ages. I can regularly do long hauls without wriggling in my seat. Try removing the cuchion all together and see if that helps. Mine have the memory foam stuff as the seat base, not sure if yours does though.

Mine do not have cushions at all! They are just firbeglass shells with a foam layer covered with material! The only part that has thick padding is the lateral support.

They do weigh bugger all though which is one good thing!

Get the memory foam seat squabs. You can get them from gprdirect.co.uk I think. (Look up gpr racing) They're in London and Silverstone.

i never had any problems with my bucket seats as they were in my car and it was used daily for all differnt lengths of journeys, maybe try tilting the seat back slightly?

from working in the cycle trade, the padded shorts Gareth recomended wont work aswell when sitting in a car as they do when on a bike.

i dont know about sparco seats but i do know my cobra buckets had vercro pads as optional extras ,its likely sparco's will have as well .

I was competing in an endurance rally earlier this year as a nav/co-driver turned up and found I didn't fit in the seats, they were way to narrow. After spending several hours driving in the car we got to rally HQ and I had lost all feeling in my rear. I found that the quick fix of a holiday inn pillow was successful in improving the comfort to an acceptable level, though it did become awkward to keep my head far enough from the cage. Might help as a cheap and easy fix for driving distances.

As agent006 and fuzzy suggest ~ load up on the Sparco optional cushions. Bare shells are not designed for long hauls of hours on end. It is no surprise that you're having problems. You will generally find these cushions are foam filled. Depending on the manufacturer the quality will vary. Even then you may find that the seat is still uncomfortable for long journeys ~ many do; some don't mind them, however, when the shell is properly set up.

I did check out the gprdirect website but couldn't find and memory foam squabs, however this did get me thinking and whilst looking on tinternet I found this. http://www.afeonline.com/shop/product_i ... cts_id=422 It's actually meant for aeroplane seats but I reckon it'll do the trick... what do you reckon?

I will definately get the Sparco lumbar support as suggested as well.

I have the sparco lumbar support in my Sparco monte carlo's and it males a massive difference.

I have ordered the Sparco Lumbar Support from Demon Tweeks and the Dynamfoam I listed from Aeroplane shop.

Will report back on my findings once fitted.

It's been a long time since I originally posted this thread but I can now report on my findings.

I have just returned from a trip to the ring and can say that the adjustable lumbar support and the Dynafoam seat pad worked brilliantly........ no wriggling at all and I think I only made two stops for the whole journey.

The only thing I would say is that the Dynafoam does not compress at all and at 50mm thick it raises the seat height so much that you have to remove it for track use in order to make room for your crash helmet!

I'm only going to be in the car for 2 hours to anglesey on 31st Oct but think a cushion might have to be an option...mind you I'm a fat lard arse b*stard so should be ok

i did a 400 mile round trip in my car in one day with my cobra suzuka seat was quite comfy to be honest, ull be fine
