on a dual carridgeway today a speed camera flashed me,
i was doing about 60ish and the speed limit was 40mph,
thing is it was the camera on the opposite side of the carridgeway that got me!
can the one on the other side of the road do me???

also is there a known website where i can check by putting the car details in,
it does my head in not knowing :banghead:
thanks (in advance)

theres no way they can fine you for it, as the road measuring is on the other side.

I set speed cameras off in this way atleast once a day.

dont worry about a thing :)

A GATSO camera can only enforce the speed of vehicles traveling away from it. When there is no film in a GATSO, the trigger threshold for a flash is often lowered, and the camera may be set to also flash approaching vehicles. The photograph cannot be used to enforcement or prosecution.

taken from road angel website :D

Very similar thing happened to me however I wasn't concentrating on whether it flashed or not as I didn't notice it on the other side of the road until further down when I saw it in my side mirror 8O

However I have heard that it is meant to be illegal for them to flash on the opposite side as it can cause an accident. Whether this is true or not I don't know.

I'm pretty sure they can't get you if you're going towards them, if they could, bikers could go through at 170mph without them having any way to check who they are.

Gatsos need to flash twice to measure the distance covered over the lines - that's what they go on to prosecute.

The ABD (Association of Bristish Drivers)website is probably as good as any to seek out advice on whether the Gatsos can do you from the front as well, so long as there are the road markings as well.

I'd agree with the above, if you approach the camera (coming towards it) over the speed limit you would set the camera of but the second picture it takes you are already past the camera so it just gets a shot of an empty road.

Added to that i "think" they have a set time limit to make contact with you, like 14 days. After this time frame, if you've not received anything you "should" be in the clear... Roll on the 22nd

They have 14 days to notify the registered keeper of intention to prosecute. After that then it is too late and you are safe my friend. I've been there quite a few times - panicking every time the letter box rattles for a fortnight :duck:

Mate,

Have a look at http://www.speedcamerasuk.com/speed-camera-types.htm

Which type of camera was it?

I have a Road Angel and a Valentine One in my Volvo so it's more star ship then car now lol. You might want to get one but I always think it's no excuse to speed but it does help.

The reason the lines are at both sides is so that car 'X' doesn't nip onto the other side of the road and thus avoid the lines on his side of the road. The lines confirm that the car was speeding with photographic evidence that stands up in court.

I wouldn't worry about it.

In london they do have front facing gatsos, allowing them to take picture of driver and also vehicle.
Flashing twice or once dont mean a thing, if camera got film in it you get f**ked.
They have new ones now which dont take film, so it digitally records pictures.
Most of the stuff you hear like going past at 100mph or more you wont get flashed is all myth.

If you look at link below, look at the camera called TRUVELO and read the details.

http://www.speedcamerasuk.com/Truvelo.htm

Zizzle is right about the lines, they on both sides so they can switch the camera round depending on time of day.

Truvelo cameras are all they have around here, No radar as they use road sensors and they do flash once, in your face.

They have a red filter over the flash so that it will not dazzle you and appears purple, i have seen them triggered but not set one off myself......Yet

What they say in the link about no visible flash... Load of bollocks that is, you deffinatly notice it.

They are on both sides so they still have the evidence of the speeder who's overtaking the motorist that's doing 30mph on the correct side of the road.

There's no worry about driving towards gatso and setting them off, as has been said, by the time the second photo has been taken, your well out of shot. Good thing about this is that it wastes some film winkeye , I've never done it myself though
