Right. Hopefully ill be getting my IS lump and bits off Jon b this weekend, and plan to fit it next friday (the 8th, if anyone near me wants to help ;) :P )

Im going to buy the following bits to put on when doing it, i think i have most things, but if people could just help me out and let me know if they recomend anything else, espiecally those that have done this swap (M40-M42)

Im basically just gonna get

1)New Oil

(Emailed Oilman, but if anyone can recomend anything it might save me time- is lump with 150k on the clock, whats good, and how much?)

2)New prop donut-Its comming with the IS prop, and ive been told its always best to replace these as their silly little things and a new one is always good.
I take it their do-able straight from the dealers

3)New plugs. Whats recomended? BMW ones, or somthing like NGK would do fine i imagen

4)New filter- Just the standard one,not sure if its best to get it from dealers, or ECP etc, wherevers cheapest tbh

5)Bracket for the coil pack (only a few quid from dealers,so thats all sorted)

Not sure what else i need, hopefully not much, im not planning on spending much apart from the basic service items.

Also, what would people generally recomend for an engine swap?

Im going to hire an engine hoist.

Ive got a suitable jack (just the one)

And 4 floor stands

Plus the basic sockets etc, but im not sure on specific bits that might be required.

All help is apprieciated guys

Well i aint got a clue, but all that stuff is the most necessary i guess. Have you changed the suspension turrets to the larger 51mm diameter, and alos the vented disks etc?

I hope it all goes well and is running fine at the end of the transplant

And yes, i am jelous :(

Anything you need from the dealers will probably need to be ordered; allow a few days...

Oil-wise, 15w/40. Castrol Magnatec stuff should do.

While you are doing the swap I would check the clutch. It's a bit of a b*gger to seperate the engine and box while the engine is in the car so you may as well do it while its all on the garage floor waiting to go in. New clutch ain't cheap ('bout Ԛ£85 complete)- but think of all the hassle you might save later...

For oil, buy the best! I use Silkolene Pro Synthetic 5w40 from the oilman. Ring them, they deliver next day...

You will need a decent set of star sockets to undo the gearbox bolts,

BMW sparkplugs aren't cheap, but i guess thay are worth it, cost me about Ԛ£4 ea from memory from the $tealer.

I would use a K&N panel filter inside the existing airbox, about Ԛ£25 from ECP and the like.

The bracket will need welding on & painting too......

Don't forget the beer / coffee / biscuits

Good call about the clutch! I've got a Sachs one in mine, and it's sooooo much lighter / better than the original one.

I've got a engine hoist you can borrow, but i'm in Wimborne, Dorset. Are you picking up the engine from JonB or is it being delivered? pick it up en-route maybe? Upto you, you've got my number...

Adam, im leaving the 45mm shocks in there mate. The wait shouldnt do to much to effect it, and its got a stiffer setup anyway.

Anyone see a problem with using the 45 mm ones?

As far as brakes go, ive got some 325 vented callipers, but ill fit them another time. My brakes at the moment arnt THAT bad, my dad adjusted them. But once the engines in and running, i can buy some better brake parts!

Martinclan- That sounds like a good idea mate, although how difficult is the clutch to fit? I am getting the lump etc this weekend, so will have about a week to clean it all up, and work on it whilst its out the car. I dont know to much, so if a clutch change is hard, i may leave it.

Mark, yep ive spoke to Oilman mate, oil should be sorted!

What size sockets are needed? if i can afford it ill buy some more tools, although i should be able to blag them from people.

Think i might have to hire an engine hoist mate, cheers for the offer, although Jons delivering the stuff, so it would be a treck for me to come and get that!

Cheers anyways tho mate

btw, everytime i go on Euro car parts, it only lets me view things once i type the vechile i want in. Which gets annoying as its not how i want to look for things!

Is there not another way of looking through all their products as i cant see lots of things im after!
