Every car I've owned I've blown the back box in the first few months. my e30 is no exception :)

I've always avoided exhausts as something for the chavs and it looks like the standard pipe works on the 318i is fat enough. any point in putting a freer flowing backbox on for performance? Performance is my only interest. Simple rule:

if it's loud but makes me go faster. I'll have it.
if it's loud and makes no difference, or slows me down. it's chav (just like the k&n I took off)

what are the relative differences, befefits etc between changing backbox, manifold and full system? and how good is the standard system?

If you want more power save your money and buy a better car.
If you want more power fom that car and like to waste money then replace the whole exhaust not just one box. It will last longer.

6 branch is an exhaust manifold with 6 individual pipes to make gas flow optimal.

means the gas escapes more efficientlly, thus releasing more power!

sure karan will be along with a pic in a min...

ah cool. are they 6 to 1? I know that for 4pots a 4 to 1 is better performance.

Is that something to do, with all the manifold pipes being the same length?? (sure I've read something about that on here)

Why does being the same length help? (not questioning, just learning!)

so you guys think a full system with a decent manifold is worthwhile?

when i had an m40 and an m42..... i came to the conclusion as do most ppl that the one thing holding these back is the AFM..... this has really gtg!!!

the m40's small tb doesnt help either

exhaust will sound cool and make u feel faster wjhich i guess is what matters.... wouldnt bother with manifold though....

oh and an iS manifold wont fit either which is a shame..

A good 6 branch defintely helps matter depending on how good the design is.

Karan's RD manifold is an excellent peice of work.

BTB manifolds are also excellent

You have to be careful though, some manifolds dont make any difference whatso ever.

The manifold pictured above has shown 1 bhp increases and huge losses in bottom end torque on a dyno on Karan's car before he bought it.

cool guys. I reckon I'll stick with the orginal idea of standard exhaust and then do the maf/unichip conversion.
