Hi.
If i remember correctly, the eta crank is 24,1 kg and the "heavy" 324td crank is 24,4 kg.Both 81mm.(The 325 td/s crank with 82,8mm is about 25 kg)
I think, its not a big difference...
Actually only a good 1 percent...

Another expert I see...........Wiseman wrote:Its a billet crank not a forged one... I could go on here.
You've probably never even seen a 324td crank Mate. It is a forging from EN16T steel and tufrided although some BMW cranks are made from EN40B nitriding steel. All M30 cranks are forged steel, all petrol M20 cranks are made from Spheroidal grey cast iron. A billet crank is one custom made from a block of steel and such a crank will be a) very expensive to produce in quantity and b) have an all over machined finish. I can assure you that a 324td crank has webs which are very much a standard dark grey forged finish.
The diesel crank is about 0.8 of a Kilo heavier because it has slightly larger counterweights.
As for rpm in longer stroke engines, the Jaguar C Type LeMans cars revved to 7500 in the early fifties and the Jaguar XK engine had a stroke of 106 mm. 9500 from an 81mm stroke M20 engine with proper connecting rods, super strong rod bolts and lightweight pistons is not beyond the realms of possibility.

Would it be possible to have the 324d crank lightened and balanced?
Whats the best crank to use if your building an M20 Turbo 350BHP+?
How much does a standard 325i M20 crank weight?

There's no reason you couldn't have the TD crank lightened etc, but there's also not much point when you can get the 2.8 litre cranks, which are also forged, so cheaply....plus they're newer and haven't been taking a pounding in diesel engines for 20 years.....and they give you an extra 100ish cc.
