It been a while now so time for an update. Since the sport was painted and back together in july i have done a few things, the main stuff being replacement of the suspension with the eibach 40mm spring kit, bilstien B8 shock absorbers and the H&R anti roll bar kit all from Evolve. The improvement in handling is great and the ride is just as good as the original Mtec springs and boge shocks, if anything the ride has improved! :D

A couple of pics.

Another thing i wanted to have from when i first bought the car was leather and after looking at several in different colours ali (darksounds)decided to break his sport and had these which by far the best non retrimed leather sport interior i had seen and only needed a little tlc so i snapped it up!

What i have planned next will not be to everyones taste, controvercial and a bit boring to others but i dont care. As for what it is, you'll just have to wait and see!

Not all of them, maybe not any of them. They are not so much mods, more of an upgrade! winkeye

Here is a little clue!

Sat morning, done a bit of digging and it was built by sytners, sold and serviced by L&C Tunbridge Wells for several years then was looked after by Munich Legends before falling into T's hands then the guy who has it now. Patchy history but plenty of reciepts from Legends and a stamped service book. Begining to have second thoughts about breaking it! :?

Alrighty then. Gaydon next week so along with replacement of the leaking water pump cam belt (Only did these last year/10k ago using patern shite!) i decided to give the engine bay the attention it deserves.
Now luckily the low mileage of the car (48500) has meant that the engine bay was in pretty tidy but most importantly very original condition with only the btb2 manifold being non standard. It even has the blue blank plug in the airflow meter.

So after removing the cambelt and stipping most of the parts from the engine bay i could see which areas needed attention.

Image

Image

As you can see the washer fluid bottle had done the usuall thing of rubbing the paint off the inner wing.

Image

So after a thorough clean with some TFR a small brush and a pressure washer i got the engine and bay nice and clean.

Image

Image

Image

After the clean i dried of the engine and bay with a high pressure air line then prepped the inner wing for paint. With the use of one of Adam's (The painter of my sport and Si13's Alpina) guns i painted and laquered the inner wing my wing.

Image

Image

After that i started to clean and re install the wiring loom. Some of the wiring loom is wrapped in black electrical tape and some of it is wraped in loom tape which is more of a fabric type tape. This loom tape had gone brittle over the years so all the old stuff was removed and fresh fabric type loom tape was used to re wrap the loom.

More progress tomorrow.

Si, it could be better but that would mean engine out, strip down and completely paint the bay. It will do for now.

Ricey, see you there, i'll be in the E30 25th birthday homo section.

Looking good barry! The loom tape makes a huge difference. I can't wait to pull my lump right out and clean the bay properly.

looking forward to seeing the progress on yours bazza, especially with all the new alpina goodies winkeye

re wrapping the loom makes a massive difference as grey baggy cloth makes the whole engine bay look old, did mine before it went back on the road and it still looks fresh.

doesnt look like ill get my 2.8 in in time for gaydon :( but at least its ready to go in now.
No longer self employed but still available for welding duties.

Ok so its nearly there now, cambelt and water pump replaced along with pas and alternator belts.

Image

I'm not 100% happy with it as the factory applied protective wax is a bitch to get off and my car was plastered in it. The paint work looks a bit dull in places so will need to try some other stuff to try and improve it. A new coolant tank and a mint washer fluid tank anlong with a couple of new warning lables has made a difference but the main thing left to do now is the rocker cover and inlet manifold. These two items were covered in the protective wax to and they have also lost their original colour. I will be painting both of these this week but i'm undecided on which colour to do them? The choices are original silver or alpina grey, any thoughts welcome.

Barry. I reckon on your car get them both media blasted back to raw finish and then a coat of satin laquer. Originality is the only way for your car.

Diamond black would look cool though winkeye
