hi guys, needs some help my cluth on my 1990 318iS is playing up sometimes it goes into gear and other times it dont, but after a few pumps on the cluth pedal it becomes hard and starts to work fine. phoned my local bm garage and the parts chap told me to check the brake/cluth fluid. it was low so i topped it up but the problem was still going on. i checked the fluid later that day and it had gone down again. any help would be great. could it be the pump thing under the dash by the cluth pedal???
please help??
cluth problem!! or not!!!

If I was you I'd want to find out where all that fluid is going. The most likely culprits are the clutch master/slave cylinders. Check the one next to the clutch pedal itself and in case it's dumping DOT4 all over your carpet (as happened to mine.) They are fairly simple to change, and not an uncommon failure I believe.

yeah its either the slave or master cylinder, new ones thankfully are fairly cheap from gsf or eurocarparts
