Hi all
I was wondering if some of the people having engines lying about or experience of swaps could shed some light about the height of various bmw (or non-bmw) engine mount bushes?
More specifically, is there something available that's flatter than an e30 bush (and by how much?) or are we looking at nylon bushes straight away? (turning a pair wouldn't be a problem, but I'd like to keep it softer if possible)
Cheers
Seb

Not sure. Im looking for the tallest to clear the Z3 rack. The other option I have is to lower the subframe and raise the engine back to level. I can't modify the manifold yet, as I need another one. (your set is looking good at the mo! ;) )

Well, I've got the opposite problem - need to lower the beast... And I don't really like spacing the subframe.
If a z3 rack is like the e36/46 ones (which I am led to believe) you can gain 14mm by spacing it at the top instead of the bottom or half way up.
If you need spacers to raise the bushes, let me know - I might be able to find some scrap ally that could be turned to an acceptable shape.
And don't hold back on the manifolds!

I've done the spacers at the top. It still clouts the manifolds.
If I put the spacers below the rack... Hmm.. might have to get the jack out i think.

you've probably got the most clearance as you are. spacers below the rack will raise it and probably make the problem worse. On the other hand, it would reduce a tendency to bump-steer.
And back to the original question, does anybody have bushes height by hand?
Cheers

Ice hockey puck will work. I don't have any, but there was a group buy a while ago, and there's an ice hockey stadium nearby, so I'll give them a try tomorrow if they're open.
Pucks will just need drilling out then use a high tensile bolt.

Yeah, would work too. That was posted by Uwe in the M/S section, wasn't it?
Would be great if you could ask them.
Thanks!

No Probs. PM me your nnumber. I'll drop by there tomorrow and fnd out.
Yeah, Uwe did post it and Agreen tried to follow up with a group buy though don't know how successful it was.
I need to take some photo's of the clearance issues. Going to try dropping the subframe, and spacing the engine back up and using the rear holes to try to get the joint away from the manifold. I've already tried heating and beating it, but no luck. Don't like droppin gthe subframe, but if it's a means to an end...
