Agreed to a point but I was always led to believe it had the M5 suspension. It certainly had mTech suspension.

Also wasn't the e12 M535i the first ever mass production M car?
It has MTech suspension, but not M5 suspension.

The E26 M1 was obviously the first M car built in 1978, but ignoring that, the E12 M535i was the first M car imported to the UK in 1981.

The first M powered car in the UK was the E24 M635CSi - built from late '84.

Don't expect great economy, but theyre a good handsome ol bus. I've had a few e28's and that right there is a 535 with M kit added a la M535. As good as the same thing. FWIW she's worth that money all day long if she's mint. If the rust has gotten a grip on key areas like the jacking points, rear arches, axle carrier mount area, boot, filler, window apertures, front panel, battery tray, forward rails etc then she's worth a lot less.

Another thought. Despite the M535i being a "true M car" (if you go to a BMW dealer they will actually supply the m badges to you due to it being recognised as such), whats listed on the V5. Is it listed as an M535 or just a 535.

Still curoius as to whether Zimms info is from the BMW database.

Nice gent eh... cheers mate... :D

Erm, well mine is no less economical than a 325i in normal driving, has much better steering due to the number of turns and surprisingly good feel to it (M5 has slightly higher gearing). It has LSD, uprated springs, bilstein dampers and thicker anti roll bars than the normal 535i too. Mine has the dog leg close ratio gear box (overdrive box better for cruising) but its always on the power so ideal for fun car like mine..

I much prefer it to my old sport (sorry guys) much more grown up, quicker and the soundtrack is much better

Fairly rare too as around 1400 manuals and 712 autos made it to the UK, but the normal 535is seem to be even rarer ( for sale anyway) hence why some do not even know they exist... I can't imagine there are all that many left and it is quite possible mine is the last Agate green one, but that is yet to be confirmed.

They still seem to change hands for very little money, only very best examples being anywhere near 3k and compared to the rediculous price of a hanging 325i sport they are quite a bargain... As has been said most of them are only good for landfill these days though so check very carefully for the dreaded rot especially in the front floorplan, sills, doors and the rear subframe mount area...

Mine is also running an Eibach pro kit, braided hoses, Powerflow exhaust (not shown in the pic) 7 series front brakes and has been re-bushed throughout. I have a 6 branch and M5 E34 rear brakes to go on in the garage a UUC shift kit on its way from the states and I will buy upgraded ARBs and adjustable top mounts in the next month too. :)

My old 528i was a X reg, first of the E28s. I had it back in 1989 / 90.
From memory, the front edges of the doors by the hinges were its weak spot...

I'm 40 now, think I'm paying about 240ish for the Touring. It is standard though, maybe I need to modify it, and try again...

Stick the chassis number into realoem that will identify it as an m535i or a 535i too...

Seen one yesterday, 535i on the badge, looks no more than a 525, 15" BBS, no bodykit... Looked very naff and basic.

I have heard that there isn't any difference apart from the body kit between the m535i and the 535i, whether that is true or not I don't know...

There are minor differences with the E28. The E12 is just a dressed up 535i.
