I am not talking about kitted up e36's pretending to be M's. I am talking about M badges. I see them on allsorts of e30's.

Why?

Your car is not an M, so why have any amalgamation with the badge?

I Just don't get it....

I have for the reason they were on it when I bought it.
However i've left them on as the car has enough M-Tec bits on it to warrant one, lets face it,any geezer worth his salt knows you can't get an M3 Touring, but I don't care,i just like the M badge :D :D

Sorry, I don't quite understand how I can be biased?

My car has M badges because it is an M.
I am asking about M badges on non M cars.

Mtechnic is that the cause? Mtech this and that?

Im just saying its a bit easier for u to ask that question cause you have a real ///M, respect to ur car tho! 8)
I wouldnt put an M badge on my car under any circumstances, however alot of peeps on the zone have and i can see this turning into a "lively" debate...
Altho i think 1 thing we can all agree on is putting ///M3 is a crime unless it is one :D

i wont put the 3 badge on cos it isnt an m3
but i dont see a problem with the m badge as long as there are some kind of mtec stuff on there
igot the m badge but my car has mtec susspension well all tourings do and an mtec wheel at the mo
other mtec bits will be there as and when i can afford them.

it pisses me off when i see m3 or m5 on non m3 or 5 cars thats going too far

i put mine back on , cause the ex owner got them stolem along with the hole front grills.

the rear was never on mine but i did put it on ....

why...cause the car is an ///M , not M3 , a M...for Mtechnic...the same M that is in sticker on the side skirts and bumpers and spoiler.....

basicly a real mtech doesn't run the same suspension as a non Mtech .... thus the kitt for the sports look.

I could be wrong but i think 325i sports come out of the factory with the ///M badge because of the M-Tech bodykit, suspension etc, i have owned 2 of them now and both had the ///M badge when i bought them an also they are a part available from BMW. Infact i dont think i've seen a sport without them. Not sure about the other E30's though.

my motor has an ///M badge, but although i'm planning to take it off as its not my preference, it doesnt overly bother me.

After all my car is fully M-tech'd up from the factory, 328i sport?!

What makes me laugh is a 318 or 320 sporting an ///M badge, which clearly makes it look rather chavish! (dont know if thats a real word).

cheers andrew

If an E30 has MTec items fitted such as MTec bodykit, suspension, steering wheel, etc. then I think its OK to have an M badge. However an M3 badge is definitely out. I have seen two E46 saloons around with M3 badges on the back, didn't know whether to puke or laugh.

I think that if your car has M styling, like a sport, motorsport or 318iS then fine put one on but it not then it's pointless.

I would definately say no to putting an M3 badge on something thats not an M3.

I put a ///M badge on mine. I like the look of it. But as Karan said, if my car was quick enough, I'd rather have a 316i badge, which I will have after I change the engine.

I wouldn't put one on if it were a standard 318 or whatever, but cos mine is a bit different, it has Full M-Tech bodykit, M tech steering wheel, etc etc I think it's ok.

Sports come with the M badge on the front grille as standard. but the rear one isn't. I think.

I agree in essence, but there are exceptions, like me!!

i´d have a badge on mine if my engine was up to it, i see lads and lasses with "M´ed" up 3´s and i can see straight out that its a stick on, but if the car has what it takes then it earns the right to bring itself to the table

You'll never get everyone to agree on this, but as long as it isn't an ///M3 badge on a 316i then i don't see a problem.

It's only the same as sticking an Alpina or Hartge badge on coz you've got a set of wheels or a steering wheel.

I've just got the tri-colour stripes on my steering wheel and gear knob but that's personal preference.

When you go to a main dealer and ask for an 'M' badge, they will usually ask you for your chassis no. This would determine whether BMW warrant selling one to you. If the number is not appropriate, then they will not sell it to you.

I think 325i Sports do or can have M badges on legitimately because of the MTech works carried out on the car. The replacement shocks I got for my old D reg Sport came in an M emblazened box!

Personally, people can put an M on any car they like, its their choice. Other drivers will know whether or not its real or not!

I agree to some degree. people ask why I have an M3 badge when my car isnt an m3... well I dont. I have an M badge as my car has M-technic kit fittied, and is therefore different to a usual iS or 318. Thats all... I dont think it's sad...true I probably wouldnt have put one on there in the first place...but Im not going to take it off. Simple as that!
