The rear view mirror on my 1989 cabby is a bit loose and wobbles about a bit as you drive.......I can't see how to tighten it or how the fitting works.....Any clues?

if it's the ball/cup in the back of the mirror housing where it is moving then it's non serviceable and then the whole mirror needs to be replaced, you can epoxy it if you never need to adjust once it's been set for you.

isnt this to do with the adjuster doofer that screws in the back of the mirror? it needs to be resting on the windscreen.

This isn't the one with the maplight in....Theres a round mount attached to the windscreen then the mirror stem fixes to this mount. The wobble is where the stem doesn't appear firm on the screen mount and I can't for the life of me see how it's fixed on or how to tighten it!

Just found out how to do this...the mounting has a ball on the end, this goes in a socket in back of the mirror... around the socket is a piece of spring steel which in my case had come off the socket...pull the mirror and mounting apart ..then push the piece of spring round the socket ( you will need a couple of flat bladed screw drivers) ..put a small amount of grease on the ball and force it back into the socket...thats all there is to it.....

Thanks Dave......I'll have a poke around mine....see what I can see. looking at the parts drawing......

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=51&fg=40

The slop in mine is between parts 1 and 3.......I assume part 4 is the spring steel bit and the 'heel' at the top should be imposing some pressure on part 1......

.....I think!

that wasn't the case on mine the mirror was loose on the ball and what i was talking about was actually in the mirror bit...you just twist and pull to get the mirror and the mounting apart and there is a spring to tension it...have a play
