My car has an annoying flat spot at high0ish revs :(

In nuetral, it will rev to redline (6k rpm)
In first , it will rev to the redline
In second, it will rev to 5k
In third, it will rev to 4k
in 4th, it will rev to 4k

If i keep the foot down, it usually gets to around 5k, then begins to die again :banghead: :(

Its not a major problem, as im rarely at that high rpm, but when im giving it some, it does my head in having to change up at 4krpm :( more annoying than anything!

Anyone any ideas what it is/how to fix it? :?

Its an M40 engine by the way (316i) :(

Like i say, the reluctance to rev under load will probably be the camshaft being worn.

Up to you whether you get it fixed (expect a bill of 2-300) or live with it..

Its very common on the m40 engine
