Does anyone know if front and rear headrests are identical, the same size and interchangable?

The reason I ask is that I want to retrofit rears to my 318is but cannot seem to find any (with matching pattern), however, I could easily pick up a couple of front ones...

Does anyone know if the guides for the headrests are in the coupe seats already?

I think the touring has them not sure about the coupe.

Touring has brackets welded in and just needs the plastic inserts, anything else needs the bolt in brackets & inserts.

I have done this job on my car. The brackets cost me about £15 inc postage bought from a zoner, I had replaced the seats in my car already but kept the originals which were the same trim pattern so just re used the front headrests in the rear. Takes roughly an hour to do including removing and refitting the seat back.

The only nerve racking bit is cutting the holes in the top of the seat back but if you fit the brackets first and then poke a pen or something through them to mark where to cut the cloth you won't go far wrong.

I was well pleased when I did mine - looks factory :

I attempted to remove my rear seats. i got the bottom bench out fine, and the arm rest was no problem. can you tell me how you got the backs of the seats off please? may have been obvious i only did it as a test run.

Also how easy was it to fit the brackets.

At the very bottom of the seat back there is a metal strip at each side which is bolted to the side panel of the car. You can only see the head of the bolt with the rear bench out. Unscrew these, pull the backrest upwards and outwards and there you go.
The brackets on my car for some reason didnt fit straight on and were a bit fiddly, however with a bit of patience its not difficult.

brackets are the same but the headrest is slightly smaller to allow the roof to fold down without catching them......
