Blaupunkt Travelpilot E1 or Freestyler.
Has Satnav, red illumination looks good and you can add remote iPod control (iPod stays hidden and controlled from face panel) and Bluetooth phone control with USB MP3 playback too.

But actually the original factory professional CD head unit is best.
Still available new!

It's amber in E30 because the bulbs have faded and the tint on the dash plates has faded - look in an E30 brochure when the car was new - they are nearer red than amber.uvels wrote:for e30 need CD player not with just red button color but AMBER,its the same like all in dash, many ALPINE models have it!

I have one of these in my 318is... to be honest I think it cr4p! Adjusting the volume and hitting a bump in the road at the same time is very, very frustrating... you just end up adjusting something else and then you have to keep pressing the knob untill you go back round to volume again, then you hit another pot hole. Multitasking?

Too old skool looking even for an E30 but still nice.
Retro looks, super tech with full GPS-Becker Mexico 7948 - £995!

Becker also have some nice clean units.

I put new bulbs in mine over the years and it makes no difference really. They were always an amber colour although the photos make them look more red. Having seen many E30s from new I can confidently say they had amber dash lighting.Loki_V2 wrote:It's amber in E30 because the bulbs have faded and the tint on the dash plates has faded - look in an E30 brochure when the car was new - they are nearer red than amber.uvels wrote:for e30 need CD player not with just red button color but AMBER,its the same like all in dash, many ALPINE models have it!
I do like the look of the BMW Business CD but I wonder what it would sound like running through an amp. I believe it's a bit low on power output.

Becker/BMW Indianapolis is the best one to get, this was it in my 530i...

Fits in the E30 perfectly, this is a better pic of the unit in the 530i.....

This is also an Alpine 9887, with an amber film over the biolite display to make it blend better......
Nakamichi CD500 is a better bet as you can set the display to amber or red etc. but it doesn't match well...

The red and blue actually looks best...
But to be honest the E30 will always sound terrible unless you do some pretty substantial work to the car building speaker pods etc. that I would just get a retro looking one.
Even the Rover CD80 would look good, the dark amber (around 620nm wavelangth for a perfect match) and lack of any rover badging makes it ideal.

malaga looks good but only a green display I think, not amber.
Madison looks cool - does it have a detachable front panel? I'd prefer one without to be honest - since (according to ebay) lots of stereos are being stolen despite the front panels not being in the car - victims are then selling the front panels off on ebay.

Looks simple but it has really good features too. Unfortunately it isn't widely available I don't think.

I vote the Nakanichi CD400...usual Nakamichi quality, true amber display (not red) and looks like OEM radio to deter thouse would be thieves...

hi, nakamichi cd 400 like this

over the weekend i took my nakamichi cd400 and swapped it with a nakamichi cd700,
the 400 looks much better in the dash. but the cd700 has superior soundquality and is arguabily
one of the top 5 headunits ever made interms of sound quality.
cheers
Anton

By foot well covers if you're refering to the passenger side, that is speaker enclosures that i made for the car, i physically cut away some metal of the car and made speaker enclosure of around 3-3.5litres.. fibreglass, wood, time, bodyfiller.loads of sanding, saw fingers from all the sanding and some spraypainting...aamerchau wrote:Hey anton, hope you don't mind me asking where did you get those silver foot well covers from ?anton wrote:hi, nakamichi cd 400 like this
