Still want an E36 M3 Evo coupe in Estoril Blue with silver leather - its on my list.

Round where I live the chav cars of choice still seem to be French Turds ( Saxo, Clio etc ) and Corsas.

I bloody hate chavs. :x

you have got to get one mate! i sold my e30 325i cab for this a year and a half ago, and it still makes me smile every time i drive it.
i know there fairly cheap to buy now but i cant really see there being many young people being able to insure, run one of these. there not cheap if maintained properly. pair of back tyres cost £350, inspections 1 and 2 are a lot of money and parts are defo not cheap. i could imagin there will be some rite dogs out there forsale real soon as people have brought them cheap and ragged the guts out of them and then relised what they actually cost (repairs/fuel) and just bung it up for sale.

anyway, heres a teaser for ya!

Not quite, but not far off.

If a 19 year old can afford insurance on an M3 they would be driving an e46.

I think the youngest e36 M3 owner over there is ~23.

Check this thread, 20 year old got a M3 EVO Vert.

Someone also has a 328i sport at 18! Madness I can only afford insurance for a 316i at 18.

Theres always an exception to the rule, on the whole unless you're pretty wealthy the average 19 year old hasn't a chance of insuring an M3.

328i Sports are more common place, but that thread is 2 years old so things have changed a fair bit!

My car might be council but I can't afford to do it properly. When I can afford to I will.

I believe most drivers at 18 are totally inexperienced and shouldnt be driving a sport, they arnt hard to insure for nothing. Most over here driving around with poor quality tyres on the back, they are accidents waiting to happen. I know of a few wrote of in that past year, its all down to experience.

But no matter how good you are, if you push them too hard in the wet, eventually it will catch you out as a young fella from limivady found out last year, the pictures were shocking.

The insurance co i use specialise in high performance, modified, classic and track day covers for all sorts however there is a big fat bold clause saying they will not insure a E36 M3 atall under any policy but will do E30M3 and E46M3 ect.

E36 is just too ugly for me. E30s have something about them, being so raw and direct on the road.
For me the E46 is also a great car, for totally different reasons (speed, refinement, comfort) and the E36 is the ginger step child of the bunch, something which isn't going to change and will only get worse once E46s fall in price to banger levels.

i agree, i got my sport when i was 18 and after 12 days of drifting about on the shit tyres that came on the car. it caught me out on and off camber corner at some speed which sent me hurtling down the road spining backwards for about 150m being able to do nothing but wait. i ended up in a field after going down a small bank through a hedge. luckily the only damage to my car was a lightly scratched side and the clips on the front valance broke. taught me a very valuable lesson though and since that day i have the upmost respect for my sport. i certainly would say it would be unwise to let and 18 year old behind the wheel of a sport.

I was considering an e36 m3 as my next car,

Good points:
I like the looks of them, plenty of tastefull mods, don't handle bad, go well, won't be affected by new tax rules, plenty of parts and are probably at the peak of their depreciation.

Bad points:
Insurance, Fuel, hard to find a good 'un, council image.

I need a new daily, the e30 is my baby so won't ever go in to daily use, I think if I can find a good evo I won't loose money on purchase price if I keep up with the proper servicing and treat it proper. Good job I have a double gatage.

And when its not council anymore I just may have one of the last decent M3's left.

i knew a lad who had an Estoril Blue E36 cabriolet when they were still in production......I think it was about 2 years old and he was only 19 (Rich Parents).......It used to make me sick because it was in the days when I was cruising around in Novas and MK3 Fiestas :(

Going back to what E30BMLOVER said, when you say an e36 m3 doesnt handle aswell as an e30 m3, Are you being serious ? The e30 would get its ass whooped..........You crazy man

owning a 36 m3 evo i would say that a e30 m3 on a twisty track would be very hard to beat apart from on the straights. ive come across a few on track days and jesus they are a track weapon, but just need to be faster on the straights. both very cool cars imo

when i bought my m3 I looked at an e36 insurance was marginally more expensive but not significantly, I didnt feel the e36 at all I drove a 4dr and coupe, both evo's and neither seemed to give me the excitement and joy the same as the e30..

the image? it is council, there are bad reps about everywhere but if you want a genuinely fast a-b car for cheap pennies then look no further although you shouldnt you can run them on a budget so it's just fast motoring for the masses, unless it was a GT varient I wouldnt be interested in one at all

e36 m3's are still good cars to have. its just e30 owners seem to live in a time warp.
i would always take a turbo'd car as first choice though as n/a with the same power just doesnt give the same excitement feeling.
