LSD's were an option, not standard on 318iS's...
Mine has done 185k, but has had 2 compelte rebuilds in that time.
Make sure it has had LOTS of recent work on it that was documented.
Otherwise I'd be tempted to walk away.
How much is it up for...?

It's had a re-con head, but how many miles ago? Who by? Was the chain replaced at the same time? Are there receipts to prove this?
Get in touch with the owner and ask him some questions about it.
Looks okay, but smallish pictures may be hiding something.
Never hurts to ask questions though...
Giles.

Just the normal E30 stuff really.
Engine wise, look for cracked exhaust manifold, receipts of the replacement head, noisy tappets, leaking air pipes, profile gasket leaks and noisy chain.
Or just read this!

Loads of info there!
Hope this helps...

Are the 318is that are equipped with an lsd good for
drifting or donuts or do they lack the power?

and i get:
and i get:
no reciept??? this seems dodgy to me, and i really dont fancy going all that way if it is crapSorry, previous owner didnt have receipt as he was BMW mechanic. He did the chain as well approx 5k ago.My own mechanic says it shows signs of being done. The engines in these are bullet proof as im sure you are aware. It goes well for a 318
